The last couple months I have noticed when I wake up in the morning my fingers are swollen, my rings won't fit (or if i sleep with one on it leaves red marks then later in the day it barely stays on my finger) and my finger joints hurt. My sodium intake has not changed, I am not on any new medications and it only occurs in my fingers (never in my face, legs, feet or ankles). Anyone ever have a similar problem? What could be causing this?

I'm wondering if your retaining water in other places as well it's just not as noticable to you. When you sleep are you inadvertintly sleeping on your hands or putting pressure on your arms somehow, I know it's a hard thing to check but have a friend stay over or ask your husband/boyfriend to let you know if your arms are somehow being placed under your head or if your a stomach sleeper under your body. One thing I would suggest and it would seen to be the opposite is to drink only water after six pm and take a glass of water to bed with you and drink it before you sleep. It's edema to be sure but it's got to be affecting more of your body than you think. Also switch your salt to a mineral sea salt it's much healthier and contains minerals that regular salt has removed it might help as well. But after two months of this I would have a Dr check it out get a urine sample taken to be sure your kidney and bladder are functioning properly. Also have a test or Arthritis taken just in case this could be a first symptom. Also a pregnancy test or hormoe test would be wise as well. Good luck and health to you. And really switch to a natural Sea Salt it's just as great tasting as the regular but is better for you.

You may be retaining water. the best thing to do is to not drink any carbonated drinks before bedtime. You may also want to try taking a water pill during the day. Monitor your blood pressure levels too. High Blood pressure can cause you to retain fluids.

Well I have the same problem but mine occurs when I've been out doing my walks the day before....... And mine is caused from Rheumatoid Arthritis....... My body always swells up afterwards.. And from my salt intake, too! When I was a child, when it was hot outside, my fingers would swell-up so bad, and it really bothered me, as a child, but it was only when the wheather was really dried and hot out!! But, as an adult I use lotion for it, now, and eventually it all goes down..... I also have anti-swelling medicines my doctor gives to me, now for my arthritis, too!!! I would get checked for it, if I were you, so you can rest easy atleast knowing, rather than not knowing , you know..... Smile!!!

What you are describing might be called "edema".

Edema is the accumulation of an excessive amount of body fluid in the tissue spaces between cells or in body cavities.
Edema may be localized and may be slight enough to make rings on the fingers feel tight.

It is important to have all edema checked by a doctor so that the cause can be identified and treated.
Examples of underlying causes of edema include allergies, poisons, high altitudes, diabetes, heart failure, lymphedema, malnutrition, liver or kidney disorders, lung conditions, vascular problems, glandular conditions (such as hypothyroidism), and pregnancy.

Could it be due to higher air pressure on those mornings when you notice this? If you wake up at a later time, do you still notice this? Have you also noticed this sometimes at night if you go outside?
