Easy. You have to act.
Not helpful? Let me explain: Improv is fine and you should know how to do it, but nothing beats the experience of learning a part and playing it on stage for several days.
Find and join a local amateur dramatics group -- one that has a record of putting on plays. And just do it.
From there you can go, if you have talent, to one of the major acting schools. They will be far more interested in you if you have actually got experience of appearing in front of an audience.
You can also go on to Mandy.com to find student/low budget films being made in your area and try auditioning for those as well, you won't get paid but the experience is invaluable.
To get ahead you must go for experience, that is what counts.
Just a quick thing: Do you want to act, or do you want to be famous? If it's the latter, forget it, if it's the former: Good luck!

Like with most other not-totally-straightforward professions, it's all about gaining experience. Get your name out there. Volunteer to help with anything (even if it's cleaning up trash or helping answer phones..it's doesn't matter, it'll all look good on your record) at your local theatre. Get some gorgeous professional photos done to create a portfolio in case you decide to get yourself an agent. Get yourself into school plays. Go to auditions for plays/movies. Lots of them. If your skills need working on, join an acting school, or something like Stagecoach. I personally don't believe in doing a Drama degree to become an actor, but you could try that after A levels. But since acting is pretty much about marketing and selling yourself, that's still the most important bit. Most of all though you've really got to want to achieve your goal, because this is one career path that isn't too easy to really get into because there are just so many kids out there who want to be actors...mainly for the money. Hope you're doing it because you enjoy the skill itself.
Thought of something else...apply and audition to the National Youth Theatre's summer programme. Look it up online. It's a phantastic experience, will show you if that's really what you want and it's the best way to make contacts in the business. One last thing: good luck!

Start an arts troupe. Just talk to creative people in your year, writers, artists, musicians, wannabe directors, and get together once a week or month. You can set yourselves projects to do together, and you can gain invaluable experience. Not only that, but if you get someone who is good at maths or economics on board, you can set them the task of working out a way you can make money.
There is a group of us doing this at the moment, and we copied it from a group that did this 20 years ago at our school, one of them is a major record producer, another a successful artist, and a third is Jude Law!
Just get some projects going, from plays to podcasts (those are the two we have done), and really get into it.
Failing that look at www.shootingpeople.com this is a resource for amateur film-makers looking for cast and crew, it does take a subscription though. Hope this was helpful...

I guess you have to start small....get into any productions you can, show that you have talent. If you have any contacts in the drama business, utilize them! Also, consider going to a drama and arts school after your A levels maybe. My Friend is doing something like that :)
Hope this helps,

look for local amateur groups, its all excellent practice and helps to get you seen on a local scale. I have personally found that from time to time companies like Sky or the BBC will also approach such groups for castings as well - I have seen that happen four times in my own experience, in the past 3 years.
look for auditions online (mandy.com is a good source). Be sure to attand auditions with a friend though, just to be on the safe side. Dont be afraid to apply!

Do not give this oppurtunity up,u will reget it if u do.

experience and contacts
get into as much drama stuff as you can and try to meet as many like minded people.
the more directors you meet, the more parts you may be offered.
but like an career, a good way to start it is to study it
