Water vapour in the air is necessary for clouds to form. Clouds are necessary to produce rain. Rain provides the water necessary for life. I would say that humidity is very helpful - we can't live without it.

Humidity helps to prevent your skin becoming dry.It helps in the formation of clouds and thereby helping us to get rain.Once humid air was thought to be favourable for yarning particularly from cotton and many spinning mills were located in places where more humidity were present thorought the year .It also keeps the difference between maximum temperature and minimum temperature less in a particular day.Moreover coastal stations are warmer than interior places particularly in night as well as in winter due to humidity.

Low humidity would mean low moisture in the air. Too low and it couldn't condense in quantities sufficient to create rain.
Having humidity regulated in your house keeps mold from forming it too high and your sinuses and skin from drying out if to low.
