Robert Chase sounds a little bit smoother to the ear.
It's ok if he wants to go by his middle name. Teachers in school often ask students how they want to be called.

Robert Chase does sound a little better. While he is growing up though just call him Chase, and get him used to it. Then when he is in school the teachers will ask what he prefers. I know a couple people who go by their middle name or nick name. Not a big deal in todays world.

I think Chase Robert is amazing. Although my Dad does go by his middle name (his first name is way to common) & he has never minded but I honestly think that chase is such a great boy's name that you should let him have it as his first name. When he starts school the teacher will call out Robert & he will have to stand up and say actually I go by Chase... the teacher will think he is being pretentious and give him bad grades the rest of the year. Spare him any agony this world is bad enough.

I think Robert Chase sounds better than Chase Robert. While there is certainly nothing wrong with Chase Robert, to me, Robert Chase just seems to roll off the tongue better.
In so far as first and middle names, here’s my experience in that matter. My husband was named William Timothy Carter and went by Tim. We named our son Timothy Curtis Carter. He went by Curt (or when in big trouble: either Curtis or when in really big trouble: all three names ;-)
When he moved out, he decided he wanted to start using his first name. My first thought was that he was hiding something and wanted to keep a low profile. I also wondered if he was just wanting to try something different by using a new name in a new town 2 ½ hour away where no one knew him.
Well, now seven years later he is going by Tim and I still haven’t gotten used to it. The odd thing was is that he never even expressed a desire to change his name previously.
Bottom line is, if given the opportunity, I think that no matter what you name them, they are going to do what they want to do regardless.

Well I know a guy who goes by his middle name and my son also goes by his middle name. It's not as bad in the south where I am from. People don't mind it as much it seems, but the northwest is a little different story. They just don't understand why anyone would do that. When I take my son to the doctors some of them will still call him by his first name even though he is used to being called by his middle so it gets confusing sometimes when you are listening for one name, but hear another. Then at daycare this one woman has seemingly refused to call my son by his middle name even though everyone else there does it anyway. I also heard that someone else had a problem with a teacher here not wanting to use the middle name like they were supposed to and the parent got upset and had to go and talk to them about it to make them stop.If it was me I would just call him what you want anyway. If I could go back in time and change the fact that we started calling my son by his middle name, I wouldn't do it.

I personally use the family name as the middle name and the chosen name as the first. I think it still pays the due respect to the family member without causing any confusion.
Going by your middle name is really no big deal...he will just have to always say "but I go by Chase" to new teachers and stuff...so it is easier just to use Chase Robert and have him say "my middle name is for my dad"

I have a friend that has went by his middle name his whole life and I just found out his first name and it sounds so weird. I tried to pick at him by calling him his first name but his first name really does not fit him at all. My 3 year old daughter also goes by her middle name at my house, but other people in the family call her by her first name so either one really fits her. Also Robert Chase sounds better.

I go by my middle name. It is about 85% ok, and 15% pain in the butt! I do like my middle name better, so I never considered reverting to my first name. However, it's always tricky when I first meet people, start a new job, etc. People get used to it pretty quickly, though, and forget I have a "first" name!!
It also gives me a chance to assert myself early on in a positive way -- "People actually call me by ____."
Some people say both names. Chase is a REALLY cool name, worth including and NOT as a first name due to the obvious problems with Chase Robert.
Good luck.

Hi.... many people in my family go by their middle name.... including myself. Funny enough, the family name that gets used is Robert!!
The only time it's an issue is when you're filling out forms, and they ask for your first name. If you put down your first name, they usually call you by that.... not the middle name that you go by. I have gotten into the habit of just putting down my first initial (as long as it's not a government document), and spelling out my middle name. It can be frustrating and embarrasing having to correct people, or explain to people why you go by your middle name.
It's not a 'big deal', but it can be irritating. My parents decided to name me the way they did because it just sounded better.... it flowed nicely with my last name. Go with what sounds good.... I just hope that it's Chase Robert... for your kids sake.

Robert Chase "flows" better then Chase Robert.
Do I know people who go by their middle name? Yes many and with no problem.
I myself use my confirmation name then my middle or first name even on legal papers. Not against the law to call yourself what ever name you wish so long as there is not intent to defraud. Been using it since 1982
