O.K., I'm about computer illiterate, but I have a good computer, but over the last year something has happened, it is slow! I have run virus programs, defragmented, cleaned up disc space etc. Recently I have run the a free registry clean up(cc, I believe), it says I have some problems. My question is: is there a free program that will clean all the problems, or is it worth it to buy it. If not is there a way to delete all on my computer and start over? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

Seems like you have already did some housekeeping on your system. I would suggest we do a major cleanup with will include some of the things you have already done. It won't hurt to do them again.
A clean computer is key to a faster computer. Run the 3 scans below.
Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Now lets clean up your registry.
Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?d...
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.
Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/clea...
Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!
Now lets clean up your disk.
Do a Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag. You can find both of them by following the path below.
Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup. Let it do its thing. You can check every box that has something to delete.
Now follow the same path and do a Disk Defrag. Again just let it do its thing.
Now lets tweak your connection.
There are many programs out there to do this. I will give you 2 of them. The first one is TCP Optimizer.
Description: The TCP Optimizer is a free, easy Windows program that provides an intuitive interface for tuning and optimizing your Internet connection. There is no installation required, just download and run.
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php...
You can get support for the best way to set it up right from their forum http://forums.speedguide.net/
The second one is Cablenut.
Windows XP tested and approved
CableNut is a tool for optimizing your Internet Connection. We have provided a way to tweak any option you may want to in the adjuster. You can load "CableNut Custom Setting" files that are included with the program to tweak your Internet connection.
http://www.cablenut.com/
Again support is available right from their forum.http://www.broadbandnuts.com/index.php?p... A
ll programs are FREE!
After applying the suggestions above you will have a clean and faster computer

From my experience if you want to fully clean your registry, you should just buy a registry cleaner. A lot of the free ones are just shareware and will only clean all of the problem if you buy the full version anyway. Beyond that if you need to start from scratch you can always reformat the drive and reinstall windows. However this is a tedious process (takes about a day) so I would exhaust all options first. If you need step by step instructions on how to reformat, I would be glad to give them to you, just email me.

Have you deleted all of your cookies ?
Goto Internet explorer tools/internet options
Clean the coockies and then delete internet files(delete offline content as well) then were it says setting click that and make sure the scroll bar is at least 21mb.
after that goto start/run and type in msconfig when that comes up look at startup. Uncheck any boxes of programs that you dont need in startup.(boot)
The last thing is to run Adaware by Lavasoft. http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10045910.html
Run this utility about once a week it kills adware
A free anti virus utility is AVG it is the best free anti virus on the net with daily definition file updates. download and install this as it has found virusis that Mcavee and Norton cannot find.

Your PC should have come with "restore" CDs from the manufacturer (assuming it is a name brand, like Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc.). You can run those to "restore" your computer to like-new condition. There should be some material with that which tells you what to expect. You'll need to backup anything you want saved!!! Otherwise it will most likely be lost.
You can also just reinstall Windows and replace what you have. That is, if you have a CD with the full version of Windows (recommend XP) on it.

per what you're saying. it quite is tricky to make your strategies up what the difficulty is. you probably did no longer say no rely while you're applying severe speed or dial or on the spot. while you're applying a on the spot information superhighway, it must be sign barrier difficulty. while you're applying severe speed, it must be spyware difficulty, if dial up, must be bandwidth difficulty. in case you have been applying you computing gadget ok earlier. i do no longer think of it quite is computing gadget difficulty. Modem skill surge difficulty is likewise achievable.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
