He's smart as a whip. I do not live near this child, so I don't know what his interests are......but, I'm his grandmother and am going to visit him this month and want to bring him an age-appropriate gift.
Thanks for your help and suggestions. Kay.

A xbox or some kind of gaming system
Or you could call him and ask him what he likes

I'm 14 and have a brother who is 5 about to be 6. Some things that I found of great interest at that age are:

0$-50$: Remote control cars, board games if he has a sibling, if he likes sports, anything like a basketball would be great.

50$-100$: GameBoy, if he has a playstation or Xbox, you could get him games, remote control helicopter/plane.

100$-?: If he dosn't have a Playstation 2, that would be great, they cost about 120$, with games ranging from 5$-50$.

If all else fails give him money, and let him either save it or spend it on what he wants. Personally I wouldn't get a gift card, yes, they do show that you went out and got something, but they are also only good at one place, and if you save them for more than a year or so, you lose anywhere from 2$-5$ on the value of the card.

Good Luck!

My twins are 9- THEY LOVE "DINO_DIGS" i get them at AC MOORE CRAFTS, toys r us, sometimes even target.

Basically- it is either a plastic collectionof dinosaurs or "bones" encased is either paper-mache plaster or birdseed- the kit comes with an age/size approiate mallot and archiologists tools they can "dig" up the bones as an adventure. Prices range from 9-20 depending onsize. also- go on the internet and type in movie theaters, enter his zip code, and you could always do a grandson and friend(s) movie treat as well.

Rubik's cube. Perfect. They're coming back in style for a bit! When he figures it out (they have instructions for solving it now in the box) he will look like a whiz kid!
