First if you take a tylenol before you drink and then when you are completely done you should not have a hangover. Controlled drinking is hard for some people. You have to be able to say No thanks and just drink a certain amount (less than drunk). Good luck with that (it has been my experience that most people cant do it). Now if you are for sure a alcoholic and dont want to go to 12 steps then you can use controlled drinking to keep from getting sick from withdrawal by drinking only 4 to 6 ounces every two hours. Keeps your body from withdrawal while you work on getting off it. Then once you are used to that make it every three hours then every 4 until you are off the booze with no withdrawal.

probably not, but you will be the only one to determine that. try drinking beer or just controlled drinking. you will probably find, like i did, that once the first amount of alcohol goes into your body, you lose control over the amount you drink. you might can control drink, once or twice and get away with it. but if you are alcoholic, you will end up drinking out of control again. try some controlled drinking. if it doesn't work, you probably have a serious problem. i can tell you one thing though. it is a lot easier to stay sober than to get sober. i don't ever want to go through any more 3 day hangovers! aa helped me, but it really took a while.

I'm a recovering alcoholic that tried controlled drinking for many, many years. There have been many studies on controlled drinking and they all ultimately lead to the fact that it doesn't work. You may be able to pull it off for a short period of time, but it always eventually ends in disaster. It took a lot of heartache for me to finally accept this. Deep down you may know this already.
And the fact is normal drinkers (non-alcoholics)don't seek out ways to control their drinking. There really is no "safe" way for you to have one beer.For me, 12 step meetings have been the most effective in helping me stay sober and happy. Good luck! It does get easier!!!

I don't have any way of knowing how much beer you drink to give you hangover but you probably did the best thing you could do. The only one who can control your drinking is you. I admire you for giving it up. If you must drink to be sociable, there are beers out there that have no alcohol.

Trouble drinking like with alcoholism or trouble drinking because you get sick?
If you have a problem with alcoholism, I would suggest staying away from it. You can talk to your family physician about medications that help with cravings, there are a few on the market that really work very well.
If your problem is that you get nauseated from alcohol, I would suggest eating a hand full of raw almonds before drinking. (I cannot recall where I read this.)

there are companies that make beer without the alcohol. Also I've heard that water is good to drink. I even drink fruit juice when the urge comes on. Not the fermented kind. Alcohol doesn't occur naturally in the body, so it can't be good for you. Do you want to be healthy or do you want to keep making up excuses?

Just limit yourself to how much you drink. Drink 2-3 beers and stop. The problem is that when you drink, you start to lose inhibitions and self control, so although it sounds pretty easy to just stop after a few drinks... its NOT!

It sounds like you have an issue with drinking. If you can stop after one or two beers, then there possibly isn't a problem. Alcoholics can be just weekend drinkers -- its a problem that once you do drink you do not have the ability to stop. Maybe you should give yourself a break for a couple of months.
"1.- TOTAL ABSTAINERS, those who never drink any alcoholic beverages under any conditions.
2.- MODERATE OR SOCIAL DRINKERS, these people drink on social occasions like weddings, cocktails, restaurants and others, could be with the meals or not. Also incluided are those who drink for religious ocassions. It does not matter the ocassion, they are not excessive in their way of drinking, so they do not have serious consequences on any level.
3.- SPORADIC EXCESSIVE DRINKERS, these people develop a habit of drinking excessively on a specific ocassion or situation. This situation could be any holidays or moment for celebration on different days. Because of the way of their drinking, the consequences could be bigger. These people have a higher probability to have accidents, fights, hangovers, etc., while intoxicated. However, they do not show signs of progressive or physical deterioration because of their drinking.
4.- HEAVY SOCIAL DRINKERS, these are the people who habitually drink heavily. Most of the time they drink at social events, with regular or frequent periods of intoxication, that can affect the body movements, like muscle incoordinations. Many of these people have become alcoholic. Therefore they have become dependent on alcohol, without knowing. Not all these people, who are included in this type of drinking become alcoholics.
5.- ALCOHOLICS DRINKERS, these people have developed the disease called "Alcoholism". These drinkers have many excessive ways of drinking, affecting their health, happiness or the safety of their family members, friends and theirselves. Also these people have an expectation of dying.
After knowing the differents types of drinkers, we can understand that alcoholic drinkers and some heavy social drinkers can be an alcaholic person.
Another important aspect of people who are alcoholics drinkers and heavy social drinkers, is that some of them acquired the chronic disease alcoholism, and others developed the disease which they carry genetically, without knowing.
Alcoholism has many definitions. Some scientistics say that alcoholism is merely a bad habit, which is a consequence of external and internal pressures. Others say it is a mental and physical disease that alcoholics have. It is incurable, and it is progressive, as a result of their drinking. There are four major classifications of alcoholics.
1.- ALPHA ALCOHOLISM, represents a completely psychological dependence upon the effect of alcohol to relieve bodily or emotional pain. There are many signs of a progressive process, in this aspect there is no illness.
2.- BETA ALCOHOLISM, is the condition of those alcoholics who have complications such as gastritis, or cirrhosis of the liver. This kind of illness can become either a physical or psychological dependence on alcohol.
3.- GAMMA ALCOHOLISM, represents those who have physical dependence and loss of control in their drinking. It is a progression from psychological to physical dependence and represents a deterioration of behavior. Some scientistics call this type an increased tissue "tolerance" to alcohol in which the body becomes less susceptible to the effect of alcohol and continouing metabolic adaptation.
4.- DELTA ALCOHOLISM, shows those alcoholics who have the same characteristics as gamma alcoholics, but instead of a loss of ability to control their drinking of alcohol, there is an inability to abstain from drinking. These last two types of alcoholism show diseases in and of themselves. "

If you take only a bottle of beer, then it's okey...but I honestly think it is dangerous for you to drink even small amounts because you may be tempted to take more than you plan to...
It must have been a struggle for you to have stayed away from alcohol... It would be such a waste if you go back to it now!..
