Absolutely, we should love others as we should love ourselves, there are no guarantees in this world, except for the love of God. Sure people betray us, but what is worse, we betray ourselves. All we can do is keep moving forward doing the very best we can with a heart that desires to please Him. When your focus is on loving God and being who He wants you to be, the love of others follows naturally.
And to some of the responses, this person wasn't talking about "religion", they were talking of God and His love which is pure. Everyone is finding out that there is a large portion of "religion" that is disappointing and a lie, because mankind skews it"...

Only God is worthy of my total devotion because I know for a fact he will always love me and never turn his back on me but everyone is worthy of love because he ask us to love our neighbors.

Love everyone, even your enemies. Love is the only way we can stop hatered. Forgive the ones who want to harm you, be patient and understand that they dont really want to hurt you. Love god and treat everyone the way you would like to be treated yourself.
