well manual is where you have to shift the gears yourself. Automatic shifts for you. It really depends on your personal preference of which you would like to drive. Manuals get better fuel mileage if driven right. But keep in mind that when stuck in traffic you will be shifting alot in a manual. I drive both, but in the big cities or towns, I would rather have an automatic.. They both have advantages and disadvantages..

Manual cars have gear shifts which you have to change to different positions for the various speeds. There are 3 speeds, 4 and 5 speeds which means you have to shift more times depending on the speed. There is also a spot for the gear shift for neutral and reverse. Manual shift cars are supposed to give better gas mileage( if know how to shift properly,)
Automatic cars shift automatically from one gear to the other so the you only have to more the shifter to go backward, forward and stop. These cars are easier to drive for the beginner.
It is best to learn how to drive both so if the event ever arose and you needed to drive a manual you can.
It is a matter of personal preference. People interested in speed often prefer the manual or gas mileage. I can drive both, but I prefer an automatic because it is easier and less effort for me.

IF you can learn to drive it a manual is much better of course. A manual transmission you shift through the gears yourself, which gives you better control in inclement weather or what not. An automatic the car determines based on speed and rpm what gear to shift to itself.

So to narrow it down even more an automatic is easier to drive, but for mechanical and safety reasons a manual transmission is better.
