Personally I don't! It seems to me that big business is exploiting the citizens of the countries involved to make even more £$! That is why when I discover that a company is using overseas staff to take calls i instantly cease involvement with them it is unethical and also WRONG!! By the way this is not about nationalistic pride.

I don't like it at all. They are taking advantage of the people in these poor countries and they are also taking away much needed jobs in the developed world. I don't blame you for ceasing involvement with a company if you find out they use overseas call centers.

This question has nothing to do with ethics, it's a business decision that affects bottom line. Do you realize that tens of thousands of people were poverty stricken and dying in China and India each year until recently. It's not exploitation, it provides these people a better standard of living and improves their economy as a whole. You in turn save money on products you purchase because the U.S. firms are able to keep costs down. It's a win/win situation. You should broaden your view to picture the ever-increasing global economy. Now if you are complaining about losing your job, you just need to work harder, read more books, and get an education.

Yes, capitalism allows for the market economy to operate normally and with efficiency. Are you saying you're a communist?

If nothing else, it shows how little a company values "customer service". When you can actually manage to weave your way through all the menus and actually get a person, often you cannot even understand the person you're speaking to, and it's impossible to get them to understand your situation. I think the idea is that, not only can you pay them less, but they can handle more calls with fewer workers because people get frustrated and hang up.

Of course, it's not like domestic customers service people give a crap if you remain as a customer or not, and this development hardly makes me feel any more valued as a customer. What really pisses me off is seeing a commercial for a company on TV telling me how great their customer service is as I sit on hold ("we are currently experiencing unusually high call volumes...", "your call is important to us") waiting for the next available 50 cent an hour operator in India. Almost as bad as seeing an add for Cingular telling me how great their network is as I realize I've been talking to dead air for the past 30 seconds.

well, it makes products and services cheaper for us.
which is how we make "buy" decisions in this country
so the companies are kind of forced to do it to remain
competitive. i mean what were the citizens of those countries
doing before? something better that made more money?
perhaps if they earn $$ they can start to buy american
products like food etc. this has happened in india.
i feel economic development should be shared with
developing countries.

I understand what you are saying, however, maybe it will help jumpstart their economy and help the employees. BUT, I wish they would send jobs to countries where english is at least a second language, AND the employee has a good command of the language.
