No, far from it.
Of course it IS a cartoon and some children are bound to watch it. However, children won't get the full meaning of most of the episodes or the humour in them since Simpson's is directed at adults.
As a simple example off the top of my head - How many children understand where Homer's name comes from and the irony behind it?
Really, the Simpson's are only enjoyable if you understand the jokes behind them - if you're an adult.
Whoever said the Simpson's are childish must get out of the rock they live under immediately. Get out and ENJOY LIFE - Watch the Simpson's.

I love The Simpsons! How is it childish? They're crazy, yellow, and funny. For the time they've been on air, and coming out with a movie, I don't see anything wrong.

I enjoy the Simpson's and I'm over 40. There are points of humor that only people my age would get, because of its historical context. The show is meant for all ages...although, some would say that it is very inappropriate for the very young. It tends to get a little out there sometimes. People enjoy many different forms of entertainment, hobbies, interests, careers, etc...it isn't about what other people like, its what you like. She is just being the average stereotypical teenager. She is trying to impress her identity. Let her think its childish...and don't sweat what she thinks about what you like...in fact, I would think she is a bit of a box head.

I think your acquaintance was probably told that she was childish at one point and is just taking it out on others.
The Simpsons is multi-layered. There are jokes for all ages.
Just let her live in her own non-Simpsons world.

Well the characters act childish, but the humor in it is definitally not for children. So no, I don't think the show is childish.

No. Many of the jokes are geared to the adults in the audience. I try to watch it as often as I can. One way to tell it's not a kid's show....how many kids shows have a bar as one of the major settings in the show? Plus all the other drinking and adult humor.
And who cares what your friend thinks? I'm an adult and I still find myself watching a show or two on Disney channel, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network (yes, non-adult swim shows).
