I recently bought a wireless router to be able to surf on my laptop around the flat, it was working perfectly until about an hour ago. For some reason the laptop will not receive any transmissions. I have tried all the power cycles and everything and I am still able to access my desktop through the router on the LAN but the laptop refuses to show that there's a signal. According to the lights on the front of the router it is transmitting ok so is this a problem with my laptop?

Problem solved! I was using a program to manage my wireless network but it was refusing to acknowledge any transmissions. I uninstalled it and used windows to manage the network and everything's working fine now. I just hope it doesn't bugger up again as the instruction manual's in Chinese lol

Some service seems to have crashed.
Restart your laptop.

Check the documentation for the laptop. The most likely cause I have found for this is that there is a button on the laptop or a combination of keys that you can press to turn the laptop wireless receiver on or off.

For example, it might be something like CTRL+F4 to turn it on or off (this is just an example - it depends on the make or model).

A lot of laptops use the combination the FN (Function) button + F2.

Like I said, you need to check with the documentation for your specific laptop.

You can also try right clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties.

Click on the Hardware tab.

Click on the Device Manager button.

Scroll down through to make sure that your wireless network adapter is enabled (it will be under Network adapters).

If it has a problem it will have a yellow exclamation symbol or a red cross symbol against it.

You're question ain't real clear. If you got connection but don't have an icon, then it's a laptop "problem" of some great insignifcance.

If you ain't getting the internet, then Check the laptop wireless toggle switch to make sure it's in the "On" postion.

Then, power off your computers and cycle the power on your modem and your router, returning power to the all according to the router's instruction manual.
