This question needs to be rephrased.
Do you believe parents will defend their children's safety from law enforcement in the event a draft becomes law?
NOTE: Bush has never proven what hit the Pentagon, and that is key to the legitimacy of the war in Afghanistan. We already know the war in Iraq is unjustified, but we still don't know WHY we're in Afghanistan. There has been no physical evidence presented that proves what hit the Pentagon and if it was a US Armed Forces helicopter launching a missile, as the evidence suggests, then I do not see any reason to willingly give my sons to the care of a government who kills it's own citizens.

If you were around during the previous draft, you'd know the answer already. Some violence, some protesting, some people renouncing citizenship. Look up what happened at Kent State (ohio) . Thats why the govt wont reinstate the draft, it would mobilize far more against the idea than those that would support it. Particularly in a war that was Pre-emptive and unecessary.

The reaction of the public will be subservient to the needs of the nation.
Wether it be a draft for military or for some form of National Sevice it is one and the same.
It goes beyond conservative or liberal politics as today each say the government is the determiner of your priveleges.
A draft institutes the mentality within a nation that national duty be subservient to the needs of its leaders.
Daniel Webster put it best in his speach agianst it with these words, "A free government with arbitrary mens to administer it is a contradiction; a free government without adequate provisions for personal security is an abusurdity; a free government with uncontrolled power of military conscription is a solecism, at once the most ridiculous and abominable that ever entered the head of man."
I will not opine persoanl reason for believing populace in US do not feel danger to personal freedoms by a military Draft just that a vast majority will go along with it.
To do so would only bring unthinking one liners of patriotic fools, and people who no longer believe or understand nations founding ideals.
there is no longer a means or a reason to effect a call to arms as the abuses of and by government have been institutionalized a long time ago and each election just verifys the administraors within that government having the Right to determine your personal lives.

OUTRAGE!!!!!!!
Even though a Democratic Representative recently raised the idea of implementing a military draft, I think it is a good idea worth pursuing. The average American would be like "HELL NO!" to a draft. But forcing kids of Senators, Representatives, Doctors, Lawyers, and even the President (girls in included), to serve at least two years in the military is good mechanism for our national decision-makers to think twice about engaging in unnecessary military campaigns.

Violent no. If so, I would fight on the side of law enforcement.
We should actually make it a requisite for every child to spend two years in the military after high school. Maybe that will instill some discipline in them, and make them productive citizens of the US. Same goes for illegals. If they will learn English and spend four years in the military fighting for this country instead of taking from it, they could use that as a vehicle to become citizens.

Reinstatement of the draft will probably take place in a few years as Iraq escalades in a fiery Civil War.

The laws are already in place to revive the draft. It is coming sooner than you think to your neighborhood. Everyone will accept it since ALL or just sheep being led to slaughter.

Violent, no. Whiney, yes. Listen to Frank Zappa's song, "I Don't Wanna Get Drafted". He was slamming them for being crybabies.
