My computer (over the last week) is running progressivly slower. I have updated virus and spyware...no help. I am as dumb as a rock about tech, so I need some simple possibilities and solutions to get my computer back up to speed.

Right click on the blue space at the bottom of your display and select 'task manager'. Click on the 'processes' tab and see what is using a lot of your CPU and memory. Research the name of the process through the link below. If anything is found to be malware, follow all the instructions on how to remove it. You should also install Winpatrol and look over all your startup programs and services that start on its own. Disable (not delete) anything that the process library says is bad.

If you have some programs etc etc you dont use anymore you might uninstall them. Empty you recycle bin and defrag your c drive. Remember anything you download into your computer takes up space. Pictures, programs, etc etc. If you dont know how to do this have a friend that does show you. To defrag you probably go to start and then to my computer. There are usually help keys to help you along the way. It isn't difficult just scary sometimes. I'm no expert. But if you havnt done any of this it will help. also usually about once a day restart your computer. that realines everything.

Go to the start menu if you have Windows that is. go to accessories, then to System tools, then to disk cleanup. this may take a while since your computer is already running slow. Then after this is done try the disk defragmenter. Same steps except instead of clicking disk clean up click disk defragment. This will take longer than the disk cleanup
