I saw one on the news, and I immediately fell in love with the idea of a dog-sized rabbit. Unfortunately, it seems that the giant breed's taken the internet by storm, and whenever I search google to find a breeder's website I get news articles or urban legend sites.
Does anybody know where I could possibly find a breeder's website, prefferably in the USA?

Also, for anybody who has no clue what I'm talking about, check this out. =)

There is no German Giant, that is why you can't find anything. That is a Flemmish Giant- largest breed of rabbit in the world (actually from the netherlands). The zoo I work in WI at in the summer breeds them and sells them for $50. I don't think they breed them in the winter.
What state you are in?
Google flemmish giant breeders- you will get some from every state.

Try visiting the national Flemish Giant club website. I am unsure of the address off the top of my head, but you can visit http://www.arba.net and find the link under breed photos.

They are a really sweet breed. They do need solid bottom cages that need to be cleaned out regularly. Use Carefresh bedding though, not shavings like pine or cedar. And make sure to clean it regularly.

(Despite what activists say, most rabbits besides the giant breeds do best in wire cages with a mat or something to rest their feet on. Rabbits are prone to respiratory infections in solid bottom cages even when cleaned regularly).

As someone mentioned, they require large cages. The best source of the correct cage size, correct amount of pellets, etc. is best determined by a breeder. The national Flemish Giant club can let you know of a breeder in your area.

Actually, the rabbit in which you speak of is kind of a "freak of nature", otherwise, he would not have been all over the news. The "German giant" is actuallay a FLEMSIH GIANT, most only grow to 15-19 lbs (still very large). I breed these rabbits in Indiana, if you are close email me at erindotlich@yahoo.com. If not, go to www.nffgrb.com
The flemish is a very docile breed (not hyper) and it is extremely rare for these rabbits to bite or scratch, they make excellent pets.In fact, they are nicknamed "The Gentle Giants".

Keep in mind, these rabbits require alot more space than more typical breeds.

I know Hans Wagner. The rabbit IS 22 lbs and 3ft if you stretched it out. However, That picture was done as a joke. The rabbit is a Flemish Giant. They normal run about 14-16 ponds and are not that big. If you really want one, you can find a reputable breeder on www. arba.net. I will warn you it takes a big cage and alot of food to keep them healthy.

I know there are European rabbits that are quite large compared to the Americans. I've seen them in zoos here in Germany, or running wild. I'm not sure if any of these will help you, but its worth a try.
