I did all those things too and it never works for me.

Go to the edit section, and zoom out until the desired amount of the avatar is shown in the window, then save.

When you set it up in Customize, there is an option on the skin where the avatar appears to zoom in or out.

its the button on the left side of the arrows, just under where ur avtar shows. the right side tab zooms in and the left zooms out.
