Gnomes and Trolls are two different creatures.
Gnomes were thought to be ancient protectors of animals; kind, gentle and of no threat.
Trolls were thought to be mythical giants that held princesses captive; but Scandinavian folklore suggests that they could be as small as a dwarf as well; some to be mean and feared, others to be no trouble at all.
Could you imagine someone having a huge, menacing Troll in their garden...lol, gnomes accentuate gardens and lawns much better.

because they wanna make it sound more menacing. Ever since that story about the troll under the bridge...it gives trolls a bad rap. Garden gnome would be a nicer name I guess if you weren't terified of garden gnomes like I am.
