So consider this.
What proportion of the total population are working?
The young, old, sick, disabled, homemakers, civil servants, council employees and unemployed make up more than half the population.
Some how the working half need to support the rest.
This is where the taxes go.
Once I look at things like this, I don't mind paying the taxes.

If you want high taxes try living in Sweden, they pay more than half their income back to the government. You CANNOT have good public services and low taxes, that's just the way it goes - and Sweden has some of the best public services in the world. Either you have the NHS working well, or you have low tax - your call.

..In the UK we are paying high taxes for a poor or non existent service
