Shouldn't a 1 GB thumb/flash drive hold more than 155 photos? I bought 3 of these and the most they hold is about 150-160 photos. I was told they'd hold about 500 to 1000 pictures each. I have so many pictures to save from my 'dying' computer ...They are PNY brands. Thanks!

It is highly variable depending on several factors.

Megapixels, resolution setting, how well the image can be compressed.

All photos are different sizes depending on how many megapixels your camera is and what resolution you are taking pictures at. (Low, Medium or High) Most cameras store picture in a compressed format called JPEG with a .JPG file extension.

The JPEG format compresses the pictures. Not all photos taken at the same resolution compress to an equal size. The more information in the photo the less compression tehre will be and the bigger the picture file will be.

You photos must be very high quality then :-)

Its just like you buy a bag that can hold 10 pounds of stuff.

Now if you only have 1 pound pieces you can put ten of them.

But if your pieces are bigger, the lesser you can put in it.

Same with your photos. The companies measure the number of photos based on a smaller size than yours.

nicely, it relies upon on the time-honored and length (pixels) and area (Mb) it is. the extra suited the image, the fewer that could nicely be held. I presume that it will carry extra or less 1000-2000 pictures. perchance extra perchance much less.
