Well, if you use the distributive property, you can determine that 3.2(x + y) = 3.2x + 3.2y.

Then using the distributive property again, you can multiply and get the answers of 2.3x and 2.3y.

Add common factors to get 5.5x and 5.5y.

Your final answer would be 5.5x + 5.5y + 4.

Hope it helps!

You add the coefficients of (x+y) so,
3.2 +2.3 = 5.5

In order to solve for (x+y) you set the equation equal to zero. so,
3.2(x+y)+2.3(x+y) +4 =0 or
5.5 (x+y) + 4 =0 solving for (x+y) you get
5.5 (x+y) = -4
(x+y) = - (4/5.5)

Don't let the (x+y) confuse you. To make it simpler, you can assume that (x+y)=z
This would make your equation 3.2z + 2.3z +4 =0
It is easier to see that (x+y) = z = -(4/5.5)

So far, you can combine like terms of (x+y), as 3.2 + 2.3 = 5.5, simplifying the above to 5.5(x+y) + 4, but without an equality sign with terms on the right side, I can't set it to equal anything.

If we set 5.5(x+y) + 4 = 0 as an example, then you can simplify to
(x+y) = -4/5.5.

this is just an expression so you cant find a value for x+y.
3.2(x+y)+2.3(x+y)+4
=6(x+y)+6(x+y)+4
=12(x+y)+4.

3.2(x+y)+2.3(x+y)+4

Simplifying
3.2(x + y) + 2.3(x + y) + 4
(x * 3.2 + y * 3.2) + 2.3(x + y) + 4
(3.2x + 3.2y) + 2.3(x + y) + 4
3.2x + 3.2y + (x * 2.3 + y * 2.3) + 4
3.2x + 3.2y + (2.3x + 2.3y) + 4

Reorder the terms:
4 + 3.2x + 2.3x + 3.2y + 2.3y

Combine like terms: 3.2x + 2.3x = 5.5x
4 + 5.5x + 3.2y + 2.3y

Combine like terms: 3.2y + 2.3y = 5.5y
4 + 5.5x + 5.5y

Use distributive property:
3.2x+3.2y+2.3x+2.3y+4

Combine like terms:
5.5x+5.5y+4
