Electromagnet are fairly easy to build. You wrap copper wire around a nail and attach a battery. I've included a number of links with illustrations and directions.

You don't need a webpage that tells you how to build one. To build an electromagnet, wrap small copper wire (like telephone wire, not house wire) around a large bolt. You'll need a very long wire, because you need several hundred wraps around the bolt. I'd encourage you to keep it neat so it works well, and try to get the coil at least 3 inches long and a 3/8 inch deep on the wrapping. Then hook it up to a D Cell battery and experiment. It will use up the battery pretty quickly.
