I have the same receiver. I haven't had any problems like that . Check to see if you set it up correctly to record. Such as:
Do you have it set up to record specific shows all the time? Or just the new episodes & not the repeats? Or do you have it set up to record a specific show once, twice, or only 3 times? Check your Season Pass manager & check your recording options.
As far as stopping early during recording, in the recording options there is a way to stop recording 1 - 30 minutes after a show has ended. I always set up to stop recording 10 minutes late in case the show goes over scheduled time.

I know you can only record two shows at once, and then if a movie or sports game goes over the time slot it will stop recording unless you extend the time or record what comes on right after your show ends so you don't miss your show, movie, and sporting events.
