depends on the pic quality .. a 7megapixel cam at max quality will put about 200-300 on the card ... a lesser quality cam, say 3megapixel, will put maybe 500 or more on the card ...

Hey Dude,
It depends. How many nails can a mayonaise jar hold? Depends on the size of the nails, right?
In digital pictures, quality is key. The higher the quality, the more megapixels, the larger the picture size in KB/MB.
Generally, HIGH quality pictures today take from 5-10 MB. lets say you have a HIGH end camera. At this rate, you can hold 100 pictures on 1 GB whatever.
Generally, you'll find that the average picture size, right now, is 3-5 MB which will give you 200-250 pictures.
Please remember, BACK UP!. It have been a very recent sad thing to tell people that they lost ALL of their pictures on their pc. They do not backup to CD ROM, other hard drive, file servers, etc.

I have a Nikon Cool Pix L6 with a 1 GB memory card, and it will hold 640 pictures. The megapixel count for my camera is 6, so it's pretty nice.

It all depends on the resolution and size of your pictures.
The bigger size and better quality = less pictures.
The smaller size and lesser quality = more (crappy) pictures
The size and res. all depend on what you want to do w/ the pictures. If you want to blow them up, go with bigger size.
If you want better quality, go with a smaller size and better res.
If you want to blow them up and look really nice, meet the size and res about half way...
All depends on personal preferance.
I normally go with smaller size and higher res. because I just want them on my computer and i want them to look nice. I don't print them out very big.
