When I was 2 years old, my country had a war so we had to get out from there. We moved to another country in Africa, and that country, there was another War that started from there. As my family moved from one country to another in Africa, we have seen our house on fire, guns pointing at us and some other violence. Anyways, all of the angers that I had inside of me, I used to talk to myself because it always made feel good.
But now, we are in the U.S. , people think I'm crazy because I do sometimes talk to myself in public. I hate medicine, I don't want to be on medication for this or go to the mental health place.

you have an insight, so you are not crazy. you were just used to talking to yourself when you were constantly on the move. you can adjust in time.

How long have you been in the US?
This sounds like a coping mechanism to me. If you haven't been here too long, give it some time. If you have been here more that a year or two, go see a counselor. They can help you discover why you are talking to yourself. After you completely understand the "Why" you can work on controlling the situation, or you may decide not to control it. But either way, understanding is the first step.
I was depressed to the point of being suicidal. The Dr. helped me discover why. He also gave me a lot of medications. The meds only change the outside, i.e. the persona I projected toward others. They didn't help ME a bit so I stopped them. I am still depressed but at least I understand why. I have tried to correct the why but have been unable to so far.
I wish you better luck than I have had. And I have to say, mine has not been all bad.

You might be suffering from Post Traumatic Syndrome.Get some help, you were under so much stress for a long period that talking to yourself was the only way you took comfort. There are good therapists out there and they'll give you the proper medication for PTS.Don't feel that you're all alone war is traumatizing, but you can heal.Take care.

I'm really sorry to hear about all that happened to you while growing up.
The talking helped you, and probably still does, get your mind off those horrible things.
Nothing wrong with going to a mental health place--but if you don't want to--at least get books on meditation, and read about post traumatic stress disorder, and similar books that can help you.
Buddhist books are particularly good--the ones that explain all the things they do--and you can be any religion (or none) to practice their way of living.

Isounds like you have been through a lot in your life and you have developed a way of coping by talking to yourself like people writ in diaries or eat to much, maybe you should seek counceling to talk about violence you have seen and they will advice you if you have a mental illness ans suggest the best treament, however most people who have mental illness do not ask themselves if they are crazy

I grew up in the U.S. and talk to myself all the time. No, you are not crazy. It's just the way you work out issues. Some people have an inner-dialog, you have an outer one.

i seen people doing this.
to be honest, it is kind of weird.
people think you are insane cos most people don't talk to themselves in public.
but, people do talk to themselves when there is nobody around; or they talk to themselves inside their hearts instead of saying it out loud.
if u can manage to control your habbit, you will be just as normal as most others. your "habbit" has its cause, and it is probably formed under great stress when you were little.
i'm not saying you have a big psychological problem, this is just a psychological phenomenon on you. it's just everybody has something different. but if your difference make people think you are abnormal, you should try to control it. and be optimistic about it.
you should talk to a psychiatrist for help.

If you have to ask if you are crazy, then no, you're not. There are a lot of people in this world who talk to themselves.
When someone looks at you like you are crazy for talking to yourself, maybe they just don't have anything to say themselves.

I don't think you are crazy. That was just a habit used to calm yourself. But if someone is looking at you just say in an italian gangster voice"what are you lookin at?"
