In most cases although Lenny Bruce was pretty profane almost 50 years ago. I think it's because society has become meaner, nastier and more uncivilized than before. People think there are no boundaries and that they can say just about anything , assasinate people's physical and mental attributes and it's funny. I think most humour today is pretty sophmoric and childish, like kids who say bad words to see what the reaction will be .

There are no more genuinely funny comics, like Jonathan Winters, Carol Burnett,Harvey Koraman, Tim Conway, Bill Cosby,Alan King, Sam Levison anymore , well maybe Ellen Degeneres that you'd feel ok letting your kids or your great granny or granny hear.

Alan Funt and Fannie Flagg used to be hysterical with just usuing regular people on Candid Camera.

Good political satire like Mort Sahl or the Royal Canadian Air Farce, even John Stewart or Stephen Colbert make you think.

There's no musical satirists around anymore like Tom Lehrer or Alan Sherman or even Weird Al, everything has to be dirty or demeaning like Borat. Even SNL is no longer funny. I don't think people under 40 who write the show really have the life experience or the sense of humour to write funny sitcoms or comedy sketches, all they know blue humour and demeaning people.

It just goes with the times...comedy mimics life circumstances and life is getting meaner, dirtier and more offensive and people can relate to it.

I doubt it. People like Red Foxx, and some others I can't recall at the moment had some pretty filthy acts back in the day.

i don't think it's offensive. People shouldn't be so closed minded. if it's not funny to you, don't laugh. i think that's whats wrong with most people now their too afraid to laugh at themselves and take things too serioulsy. we need to learn how to be more comfortable around each other and say certain things without the other person ready to start a fight.
