I had psychology class last semester. This my second year in college too. My grade was A on there. Just do your work on time and be on time for the lecture. Whatever chapter your on, go home and read it carefully and understanding. When there is a test, before the test memerize the important things on the chapers that are on the test as much as you can.

My first class was general psych with some of everything thrown in. It can be a great deal of fun. You will learn that you already know a great deal, that some of the everyday comments, quotes and complaints are from historical psychologists and you will learn about the founding fathers (because most of them were men) of the field. But it is psych, not psyc. Have fun and take it with a grain of salt. Psychology is a very weird field with many of the people who follow it as a career being somewhat eccentric. Not all, but well....

yeap, it's hard!. Read this before you start: http://www.cchr.org

You MUST have a passion for this subject, otherwise it just going to bring you headaches, stress and lots of reading.
I actually started taking psychology as a major a few years ago, with the thought that I could help someone, but how would you know if you're going to be a good a therapist or screw someone's life forever?!. There are too many psychologists out there. I have a few friends that end up getting their Masters in psychology, ready for work right?, guess what?... it's been 7 years since they 've been working at sears or other min. wage retail store.
I'm glad I changed my path into the electronic field.

I guess it's ur first psych class? Which will be Introduction to Psychology if you never had AP before. There's a lot of memorization and you need to know how to interpret the terms. The readings are quite a lot since it's learning a little bit of everything in psychology in one semester (developmental psy, history of psy, abnormal/clinical psy, research method etc.) Good luck. Just make sure you keep up with the readings and understand the materials. Most likely the exam is about how well you know how to use the terms in a situation not definitions....

Psychology is as hard as any subject you might take as there are so many different areas. If you're into sciences you might want to take neuropsychology which deals with the brain and then there's social psychology that deals with psychological societal issues like discrimination, pain tolerance, apathy.

I'd advise to keep an open mind with what your teacher is lecturing you on, stay curious, don't slack off , do your assignments, volunteer if you can to be a subject in some of the 3rd or 4 th year lab studies.

I majored in psych and sociology and find that having a degree in both comes in very handy no matter what kind of a job I have. Psych deals with the individual and sociology deals with societal trends.

If this an intro to psycholgy, like psych 101 just be prepared to do a lot of reading. Generally in psych 101 they give you a very broad view of the various schools of psycholgy, Freud, Jung, Skinner, Alport, etc. etc. Be prepared to be given a lot of material.
If you wish to pursue psychology as your major you better like statistics and research methods, as all the various branches of psychology use them extensively.

Why don't you chat to the lecturer for the course and ask them to explain it to you or ask for a copy on the outline of the course to see what the course covers or you could ask to speak to a student who has completed the course and ask the students questions on areas you have concerns on

if you take these course, like belle and silvermann, don't forget to read up on what their peers thought about them...it's too easy for the professor to make you believe what is written is literal, it is not, it's all just theory...a slant on the way you think of life today or other people's life...
