Why do so many people hate rap?

All my friends hate rap, my family doesn't like rap, a lot of the people at my school hates rap.

How can anyone NOT hate rap? It's the most horrible "music" in the whole world. Note how I put quotes around the word music? Because rap is NOT MUSIC! It's people TALKING. It has no point and the theme of their songs are usually about sex and partying and drugs. Now do you know why so many people hate it?

They probably have a stereotype about rap like the people who say that it degrades women, promotes violence, talks about money and possessions, and all of that other stuff. They may not like to hear such immature music. They may not know about the "good" rap music because all they here is the "bad" rap music. But, I don't blame them for hating rap because that is the kind of rap that most people will probably end up hearing - thanks to the radio and mainstream.

But, to truly hate a genre of music, you must listen to it all. I hate listening to country. But, I can't say that I hate country music because I haven't listened to every country song. There are rap songs that express everything that every other genre of music express. There are rappers that sing. There are rappers that rap to music played by live instruments - all kinds of instruments. There are rappers that play instruments. There are rappers who rap in a poetic style. There are a few rappers today that are extreme lyricists - they can blow your mind by what they say and express. Oh... I almost forgot about Christian rappers. There are a variety of styles within rap itself.

I am almost sure that there is at least one rap song that someone will like. I think that there is at least one song in every genre of music that is for someone.

It depends on where and who you live with etc. If it isn't part of the social dynamic where you live I'm guessing another type of music prevails.

I grew up in a place dominated by country- Rap is not widely appreciated...

Not everyone has to like everything- just be happy if you enjoy it.

because people think that rap is degrading to women, but really alot of music is, like classic rock, rap is just more obvious about it. I think it needs to get more respect as a genre because I'm a girl and i still love it along with alteernative rock and jazz and all kinds of things. even country cause i hate it when people say they like everything but country

People give lame reasons like it degrades women, bad language, it promotes drug use and violence, but other genres do the exact same thing. I know some of the music I listen to, which is not rap, talks about cutting wrist, cocaine, morphine and commiting suicide..et cetera. My reason is I just don't like the sound of it.

I don't hate rap. Sometimes people are closed minded. As a matter of fact I listen to a variety of music...the only type I really can say I do not enjoy is country.

Rap is not music its talking..anyone can do that,anyone!The music behind the voice always sounds the same,same beat....hey to each their own tho..
I just prefer something I can understand & relate to..

Because it seems like rap has a dark side to it. And the songs always repeat themselves.

I do not hate it.. its just that sometimes rap insults sooo many people and they talk about so many irrelevant things. I do like some.. but most of it contains the word 'bitches' and 'hoes' and 'my spinners so 60mph'...
