Why do you kill babies but not criminals. I am not saying all do, though.

More and more people oppose capital punishment because it is seriosly flawed - and these opponents include liberals and conservatives, people who are pro life and people who are pro choice. (No one is actually for abortion.) Opposing the death penalty doesn't mean you excuse brutal acts. The people who commit them should be severely punished.

Here are some facts about capital punishment-

The death penalty is not a deterrent. Homicide rates are much higher in states that have the death penalty than in states that do not.

The death penalty system costs much more than a system that does not have the death penalty. Much of these extra costs come way before the appeals begin. (In my opinion, some of the extra money should be spent on victims' services, which are underfunded.)

More and more states have life without parole on the books. It means what it says and is no picnic to be locked up for 23 of 24 hours a day, with no hope of anything else.

Over 120 people on death rows have been released with evidence of their innocence. In the majority of these cases, the evidence was not DNA, which is not often available. More often, the problem is one of mistaken eyewitnesses. After an execution, the case is closed. If the wrong person was executed the real killer is still out there. It is human nature to make mistakes and executing an innocent person, killing an innocent person in our name should be unacceptable in a civilized society.

Speeding up the process will certainly result in the execution of innocent people, some people just like you, your families and friends. Yes, ordinary, law abiding people have been sentenced to death, spent years on death rows, and, thankfully, were saved in time.

The death penalty can be very hard on the families of murder victims. As the process goes on they are forced to relive their ordeal in the courts and in the media. The death penalty revictimizes families of murder victims. Life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed.

The death penalty is not an effective way to keep us safe, prevent crime. Common sense, based on the facts, is better than focusing on revenge.

It has to do with philosophy and results. In the first instance, numerous studies have come up with the fact that capital punishment rather than deterring crime, appears to actually have the effect of increasing it. Then if murder is to be illegal, it seems hypocritical for the state to sanction murder on their own terms. Of the enlightened countries of the world, America is one of the very few that still permits capital punishment.

Abortion, and particularly early in the pregnancy is not ending a viable life, for the fetus would be incapable of living at that point. It is the law of the land, and it is a woman's prerogative, for who are we to legislate what her choice should be. Certainly more might be done to prevent pregnancy, and herein is another conundrum, why are so many anti-abortionists against birth control?

And one could reverse this question and ponder why so many anti-abortionists are so adamantly pro the death penalty?

People are more complex than one label can define. There are 10 amendments to the constitution that were enacted before the constitution would be approved by the original states. They are called the bill of rights. Our world is so complex that sometimes the rights outlined in those 10 amendments conflict with each other. Good people can disagree over which right is paramount in any particular circumstance.

My guess is that they will say that abortion is not murder. Though I do not agree with their ideals, it is my assumption that they believe that life does not begin until the child is born, and therefore abortion is not murder, but a solution to a problem. They will say, however, that capital punishment is murder, as the criminal is alive and is a human person, and therefore if we kill the criminal, we ourselves are committing a crime. I can't agree with that, but that is my best shot at your question.

i see abortion as a decision made by an individual.that person has to wrestle with his or her own morality regarding the decision they made. capital punishment, on the other hand is carried out in the name of the people. this places an unjust burden on behalf of the individual in the name of the collective.you might also ask how one can be anti abortion and pro death penalty?

Simple. A fetus is just a bunch of cells that don't constitute anything remotely human. If carried to term, they'd most likely be unwanted and a drain on our taxes. It's much better to get rid of them.

On the other hand, it costs more to execute a human than it does to keep them in jail for life; and there is no way to undo it if you later discover they are innocent.

The two are completely different.

Why do conservatives decry abortion but will have children sent to death for crimes committed.

It all depends on your definition of and value of humanity

Choice advocates don't see the fetus as a person and see persons charge with crimes as persons.

Conservatives do to both but use "righteousness" to differentiate.

They're big hypocrites of course...and complete phonies.

They will try firing back at you here with a dumb question of their own, but it won't make any sense. For example, they'll compare self defense with capital punishment and think that they're being logical.

Liberals can't see their own stupidity, ignorance, lack of values and illogical arguments. Their condition has now been determined as a bona fide mental disorder by a lot of psychiatrists, similar to schizoprhenia. Liberals have lost contact with reality exhibit dysfunctional behavior and delusional episodes of various sorts. They are also prone to engage in behavior that is harmful and destructive.
