You want detergents to foam, it aids in the removal dirt. By design the amount of foaming agent in a detergent depends on the application the detergent is used. High efficiency washers require a low foaming detergent, most washers use the standard
detergent which has more foam.

My guess would have to be that the more it foams the more air it has in it and the less soap to clean your clothes. But then on the other hand they now have out those new dish soaps that foam up and work twice as hard. I think you could get a more expensive brand like Tide or Cheer and then a cheaper one like Arm & Hammer or your local $$ store one and see how they foam. Is she just like running a cycle of water and soap to see? I also kinda wonder if it depends on your washer and the cycles you run it on such as faster or delicate. Please post the results cause now i am curious too :O)

Detergents that tend to foam a lot is very alkaline in nature. This is bad for soft fabrics which are very fragile and susceptible to chemical damage.
You would want to use a more neutral detergent so as to protect your clothing and make sure they can last many washes.
So, no, I don't want it to foam too much.

No because I have a front loader that is not supposed to 'foam'.Too much foam in any washer means soap residue in clothes and buildup in the machine and it is a waste of detergent and money.

no, the ideal laundry detergent doesn't foam otherwise it would leak out and get all over the floor.

dish soap foams the most, laundry soap, and automatic dishwasher soap does not because it gets agitated so much it would flow over all over the floor
