Some of the best slings and wraps, like the Maya or other ring slings, Moby, etc aren't sold at Babies R Us. They're generally sold on line where you can't try them on. I'd look for a mother's group in your area and ask to try on the ones you see there.

The best one out there in my experience is the baby bjorn. It is the most comfortable and easiest to use. I don't recommend slings, sometimes the baby doesn't seem to feel as secure. Other moms swear by them though.
But in my experience as a mother of 3, the Baby Bjorn is the best. There are 3 styles, and I would only recommend the "active" one if you are an avid hiker. It is more expensive and has an added lumbar support. My baby is 5 weeks and almost 10 pounds and I use the carrier everywhere with no backache. The original model is great. I got the "air" one which is breathable mesh because I live in a hot climate. Babies r Us carries all 3. I have just been so happy with this purchase that I couldn't help but share my experience because when I set out to get one, i really had no idea which was best. I first considered the sling. Babies R Us also has a great website with user comments. You can see what other mommies think of each product.
Good luck and congratulations!

I can't imagine a store complaining about you trying them out. Like clothing, they must be comfy. Also, I took my first daughter to work with me and she spent some time each day in a carrier. In my experience, (after going through a few cheap ones), Baby Bjorn is worth every penny. They are super comfy, even when the baby gets a lttle bigger.

your local specialty store should have a knowledgeable salesclerk that can advise you as to the best type of carrier for your particular body type. The Baby Bjorn is the most popular and the price is pretty much the same at all the various types of stores.
Go online to www.babynews.com and they have a listing of many of the most popular carriers and backpacks plus patterns.

i finished donning my son whilst he replaced into 18 months, no longer as a results of fact he have been given too heavy yet as a results of fact I have been given too pregnant for it to be soft. After the delivery i could sometimes pop him interior the service whilst he have been given grizzly yet time-honored toddler donning stopped for him at 18 months. My daughter nonetheless is going interior the wrap service at 10 months, i'm going to possibly end donning her somewhat quicker as a results of fact i'm pregnant along with her youthful sibling somewhat in the past than i replaced into pregnant along with her. No element attempting to re-tutor Karen, she's obdurate as a goat and believes that she is suited and we are incorrect. regardless of that each and every of the warnings are for pouch slings which somebody with a million/2 a recommendations could desire to tell have been risky in the previous each and every of the warnings approximately all of them started popping out! She believes those warnings be conscious to ALL distributors, inclusive of the medically cautioned wrap service and the Ergo.

Your Local LLL may have quite a few for you to borrow. Other moms there may allow you to borrow one of theirs also (as many moms have more than one carrier--I have 5 myself)
Every woman and every baby are different. I personally prefer my homemade wrap. www.wearyourbaby.com It cost me $6 bucks for fabric!
