Ebay is ok. They too have thier share of problems. Yes fraud is very very high on ebay. Between shady users and phishers who constantly try to get your account info. There are also a lot of shady sellers on there.
I do not know if you plan on buying or selling. But if you are buying from someone you really need to check there feedback. Key things to watch out for on feedcak are people who keep giving the same person feedback. If the person you are buying from has a lot of feedback from one person, be very careful. Also read feedback that was left for that person. Another thing is to be very careful on the location that the item is in. Try to be from the same country that you are in. It helps if a deal goes bad. Third look at how long this person has been a member. Also email them questions about the item. That will help give you a feel for the seller. If you at anytime feel something isn't right don't buy it.
If you are selling then you have to deal with paypal. I wouldn't say they are that good. I am a seller on ebay and though I have a great reputation I will not use them. Selling to people you really have to watch out. Don't sell out of ebay as you have no recourse if you are taken. If you take a m/o or check make sure you wait until your bank states that the check has fully cleared and let the customer know this. Also watch out for newbies that bid. A lot of them are scammers. They do this to get your info. Paypal does offer some limited protection but again read the fine print on thier terms of service. Paypal has a good plan in its premise for buyer protection but does lack the ability to back it up. Mainly they do not verify who gets an account and when the y catch suspected fraud it is usually a little late. Yes people swear by paypal until it is too late.
So in conclusion Ebay has a lot of good if used wisely. Got to the ebay community boards and you can read a lot more about how things work. Or you can contact me if you like I am always glad to help out someone on ebay.

I have used eBay for about 3 years now. When I want to purchase an item I check the sellers feedback. It will tell you how many transactions this person has done and what buyers complaints are. Most sellers use paypal which also protects you (the buyer) a bit. Check out www.paypal.com for more info. I have never had a problem so far... Just be careful and read the descriptions entirely before placing a bid...

I love ebay and have used it for 4 years now ! Never had a bad experience so far and had some great buys .. To tell you the truth i grudge paying the prices in shops now when you are sure to get a good deal on ebay !! It will be handy when you start your family for picking up baby items etc at a fraction of the rrp ..

Good luck ..

Ebay is nothing but a money market. When I say Money market i do not mean for the seller. You lose so much money and everybody thinks that they can get things for almost nothing. They have created what I consider a monopoly on the market. But others will say no because there is more auction sites out there. They keep raising there fees to make it just abou impossible to make any money. Yes the buyer is making out really good. Getting a product for just about pennies on the dollar. You also have people that will wait for two to three weeks before paying you for a item that they bought. There security needs major improvement. Over the last month I keep getting people that are trying to hi-jack my acct and take control by sending me false emails. Ebay just sits there and really does nothing. They take your email but do they really take it seriously, I do not think so. So in my opinion ebay sucks.!!!!!!!!

I have bought and sold with ebay since july 2003, and i have never had any problems whatsoever. Being scared of using a service like ebay is like being scared of ordering things via mail order in say like a magazine. Theres always the risk of not recieving the item but you dont know until you try. Ive never had a problem personally

It has pushed up the prices of used goods so bargains are harder to get
It has also been hijacked by companies and there a fewer individuals now selling.
I got a good deal on a camera
screwed on an HDD and a cordless phone.
I sold off bits of my laptop for a good deal.

I use amazon for most stuff now as they are faster and more reliable and cheaper.

We have done some good business on ebay. We pulled out when they raised prises again. Many people who had over 4000 items and low priced items pulled there inventory after finding out the outcome of the price hike.

We have never had big problems with buyers or sellers on ebay. We have had problems with ebay themselves though. Not crediting our account, taking more money then we owed them, taking money and not crediting our account.

Like I said we did some high volume selling over there (power sellers when we were selling over there) and never had any real problems with other buyers/sellers.

I would say no, a lot of stuff is fake! and its not just things like cd's and dvd's its all sorts of stuff like clothes and shoes but it can be ok if its not fake. Remember if it sounds to good to be true it probably is!

it is worth using if you are sellling things you already own or can buy really really cheap. it's getting more and more difficult to run a business out of ebay because they keep raising their retched fees
