We know they're the best players ever, but if you really think about it and see their videos, back then football wasn't as competitive as it is now. In those videos, they don't run that fast, deffense is slow and it almost looks comic many of those goals. (Maradonna's goal vs England is amazing, but no way it would ever happen something like that nowadays)

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're bad at all, I think they're awesome. but my question is:

If Maradonna and Pele would be young and have the same skills they had like 20 or 30 years ago, would they still be the best in the world? Now that there's a Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Drogba, Lehman, Messi, Ballack, Kaká, etc, could they beat them all and still be the best?

I do not believe that Maradona or Pele were the best players to ever play. I would say that award would go to Garrincha, who was born a cripple and still managed to never be on a losing team when he and Pele would be in the same Brazil squad.

However, if these 2 were around today then they would be the best around. The only problem with todays game and yesteryears is the diving which has now become too much of the game.

If you took the whole of the 1970s World Cup squad and put them on the field today in their prime then no team would come close. They were the greatest team ever and as Pele was a part of that team, he shouldn't have a problem with todays players.

The problem with Maradonna is how much was that skill and how much was that the use of cocaine.

Yes. They both would be phenominal. Both Pele and Maradona perfomed well at soccer's highest stage against the world'd best in the World Cups.

Their ability with the ball and skill level would still be tops in the game.
