Who else here thinks Beckham is the most overrated football player ever?

Seriously, the man isn't that good, sure h has his "magic knee" but if you think about it, he's all about marketing. He's a pretty face who can kick free kicks well, no more than that, he doesn't run, he doesn't steal balls, he doesn't deffend, sometimes he attacks, etc... If you compare him to players from his own country like Joe Cole, Rooney, Owen, Lampard, Gerrard.. he's not as good as them at all.

I totally agree with you.... Lots of people make a big fuss over him and I have no idea why!!! There are tons of other players out there who are better than him but don't get the appraise they deserve.

No offense, but I think you cannot say that he is the most overrated football player ever...Maybe there are times when he is playing badly, like when he missed the penalty at EURO 2004.

But at the same time, let us not forget that he can single-handedly win matches with a swing of right foot from a free-kick. For example, when England were losing 2-1 at 3 minutes into injury time at the World Cup or European Championship qualifier to Greece and need a point to get through, up stepped Beckham for what was virtually the last kick of the game from a free-kick and sent the ball spinning into the back of the net and confirmed England's place at the tournament.

Other than that, I still remember when Real Madrid faced Barcelona and beat them 4-2. If i remeber correctly, Samuel Eto'o was one on one with Casillas...and Beckham made a fantastic sliding tackle to take the ball away...Nevertheless, Beckham was probably the best player on the field with that tackle(if i am correct) and two goal assists...

Beckham also commands a high media profile, He is one of the most famous players in the world. He has endorsements with many multi-national Companies like Pepsi.

He has also won many throphies when he was with Man United, although he has won none at Real.

I am sure all this tells you that he is more then the overated football player.

I suspect all those who know absolutely nothing about football. Beckham has two great attributes. He is the best long passer/short passer/crosser and free kick taker in the game today and since he joined Man U. There are enough professionals who believe this to suggest its true. Yes he is slower now but that is as expected.Those players you mention do not play his position so they bring other things to the game. None of them have won a trebble. None have won the number of league titles, none have played for Real and they only buy the best.
The 2nd even bigger attribute is his pull, he has taken football to countries where it was not popular, he has brought youngsters into football who would have truned to video games insead. So many youngsters still love him. Asia see him as a god and frankly the USA will in a year or so.
Some kids play soccer pretending they are Gerrard, some Owen, some Lampard, a lot Rooney, but from mid 90's til a year ago most were Beckham. They love him.
And people call him thick, what a joke, he has taken a skill - to cross and score from free kicks - and built a career second to none in the sports world. Richest contract in Sports history, and you call him overrated.... perhaps you need a reality check.

OK hes over rated...hes 31 years old and past his prime..doesnt even run..he doenst have to defend because hes an offensive midfielder..so hes more of making plays and putting the passes for goal..he is pretty good..because once you master ur technique you can do anything..my dad played professional in mexico..and now hes 45 and can kick a ball better then most soccer players ive seen..dominates the ball..so beckham still has alot in him..BUT HE'S OVERRATED SINCE HE STARTED..WHY BECAUSE WOMEN LOVE HIM..DUH..if i had a pretty face n blond hair..id b loved 2..lol

Just kidding!!! I think all of the Hollywood hype is silly...lol...everyone is excited that the Beckhams are coming to Hollywood so they'll have something to write about besides Paris, et al. It's just craziness! Maybe this will bring soccer to a different level in the US, though, which is good.

Yea, I think they are over rated. Him and Posh are icons and all like but they get too much good press. Though saying that, who better to get our kids to be like?

I don't like the way Becks disrespects his poor dad. The dude needs.... Actually no, like it says- 'how much sharper than a serpants tooth is a thankless child'. It's not just the parents who feel the bite, the children feel the bite of their own poisen so Becks will have the rewards of his own attitude and thanklessness.

um NO first i must say that he is gorgeous! but anyway he still is an amazing soccer player he can score from anywhere and that is all that he really need to do, that is his role on a team. the rest of the team can defend. as long as he is in position to shot he will score. Plus, the less he runs the more the camera can catch him.

He is over rated as a player but not as an influence on the game. His personality and notoriety must affect other players in his own team and in the oppositions. Its not just about what you do with your feet.

he is just a business icon and thats it....
he isnt a talented player or even a very good one....
and I still wounder why do all the football clups want him??
