I would like to know if there are any studies that find a link between income and duration of watching TV. As income increases, does television viewing increase or decrease?

Much less. In her book the Overspent American Juliet Schor provides statistical models that demonstrate there is not only a variance between the number of hours affluent people and poor people spend in front of the TV but there is a difference in the content that the poor watch.

Poor people tend to watch crap TV. What's worse is the people the see on TV become their cultural and economic reference set. They end up buying things that they think associate them more closely with those they refer to. They feel entitled to the same kinds of things they see on the small screen. The problem is, people on TV project a lifestyle that is beyond the real world expectations of the average viewer. Forget for a moment the crappy acting and poor writing on the 90's TV show Friends and ask youself this question... How many people working in a coffee shop (even with similarly employed, entry level room mates) can afford a loft apartment in a major metropolitian market?

Wealthy people tend to watch very little TV and when they do watch, it's news. Judging from my circle of friends the TV news vendor of choice is CNBC or MSNBC. No one in my circle who has in excess of six figures working in his or her asset producing portfolio has any tolerance for Fox News. Interestingly enough, I have some poor friends who love it...

I believe the rich watch less TV
It is one the watch what happens add to another who goes out and makes it happen being on TV
Look at Paris Hilton Do you really think she watches TV as much as she is making her business to get famous anyway she can to be photographed and to be on TV
She probably has a list of things to do to stay in shame or shape and keep loosing her cell phones on purpose and acting like the typical bottled blond
Now Donald Trump is making great deals and checking on investments and saying more than you are fired to some of his people as we speak so he can stay on top and get back extra slices

the tv viewing does not increase/decrease. some tv channels viewing increases. i think rich people watch more beauty/fashion channels. or something about rich people, tv stars.
i think they have a lot of free time to watch tv, when you have money, you don't need to work so much.
