Audi 2000 A4 - Check Engine Light - P1423, EGI Functionality test failed.
Any idea what it means and if i can drive with it for sometime ?

P1423 - Bank 1, Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System. Throughput too low.

Most likely there's a broken vacuum line or vacuum solenoid that's failed. Unfortunately, even the factory manuals aren't very clear about vacuum hose routing. Other than spending outrageous money at the dealer, if you're handy you can trace it yourself. Browse this site, you can get the diag software, cables and factory manual on CD. As for driving in this condition, it really won't hurt the motor, but still should be fixed, just like any prob.

Could be the " Air-flow-meter " sensor. Locate your Air-Flow sensor from engine then clean it, use carb-cleaner then set dry before re-install. Air-flow sensor usually located in the air inductor, where your air-filter connected, maybe some connectors to the sensor sending a false alarm, check your connectors for bad connection.
