Pelvic exam? Breast exam is not painful, it's just wierd sitting on a table and having someone touch your breasts, but it isn't painful. The pelvic exam you need to get used to, it's a routine thing for women. If they are doing a pap smear they will use a thin instrument to get a few cells off your cervix for testing. You might have a little discharge after that procedure but that is normal.

None of it is worth stressing about 4 months in advance! Mostly you have a fear of the unknown, but it's not bad, it's just part of being female.

Everybody gets so scared and nervous going the first time, and once you get it over with, you realize that you were all worked up over nothing.

I've never had a painful pelvic exam, and I've had quite a few. The more you relax yourself down there, the easier it will be. Another trick to making it go smoothly is to hang your bottom off the end of the table. I know it may sound silly, but it really helps keep things as comfortable as possible.

Afterwards, you may have a slight discharge of blood and, well, the KY jelly they use. Boy do they use a lot! You might even have some slight cramping, but then again, you might not experience anything like this afterwards.

Just remember to be completely honest with your doctor about your lifestyle. She (or he) is there to help you. If you lie about smoking, for example, and tell your doctor that you don't smoke, you are putting yourself at risk for blood clots with certain birth control. Be honest and your doctor can do his or her best for you. :)

The breast exam, for me it just feels wierd having somebody touching all around on my breasts. It doesn't hurt though. The pelvic exam (right spelling) It can be a little uncomfortable. One of the keys is to breathe and relax. Breathe and relax. One suggestion: if you've never had sex, ask for the small spectroscope. Because the larger one would hurt. They will do this for you. That part of the exam is done within usually 5-10 minutes. Do imagery during the process if you want.
