What makes some people display more addictive behaviors than others?

Can be either one or both, all depends.
Take alcoholism for example,
someone could have a habit of drinking too much, and it could turn into an addiction.
someone else could have a family trait of alcoholism, and be more proned to become an alcohol if they were to start consuming regularly.
Traits, Habits, and addictions are all different things, they can be related to each other, but i do not think you can specify addictions to being a trait or habit in a general sense.

Both nature and nuture contribute, so I'd say trait and habit each apply. Some people can get addicted to anything, while others can take it or leave it.

The addictive personality seems to come as a family trait in most cases--but that doesn't mean that watching the people who raised you (whether blood or not) can't groom your mind into the habit.

Sometimes addicts will replace it for something else that's missing. It makes the pain go away

Addiction is a deep love for something, so good, it has a power over you, even if it's bad for you.

You love it so much you'll do anything for it, anything to get it.
And in those bad addictions, there hopefully comes a point when you know you CANT have it anymore, because it destroys you.

So some strong people can give it up, but getting over an addiction is a lifestrong struggle.

first of all, display more addictive behaviors than others is too confusing, off the point. addictive behaviors can be learned or inherited from family... but they are not displayed, you display a statue or a car or a dress in a window, get it? no action to this word.....addiction is an action word, get it, Overeaters Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Smokers Anonymous, on and on....any of them are not comfortable, it is a life long journey to live in another way. I hope anyone with any problem gets the help they need, and there is help for people which are effected by these addicts life's. Alanon, gamanons, adult children of alcoholics..on and on.....good luck

its a habit based on the culture you are surrounded by, family background, friends and the people you associate with. suppose for instance that you had a ton of friends that do drugs then you are exposed to it so your chances of doing it are increased. also when you really think about biologically what formes an addiction are chemicals being released from cells, and hormones which make you crave a certain thing. I Whould say its definatly not a trait becouse addiction is not inherited as far as I Know.

Both.
It can run in families and is thought by some scientists for the tendency to get addicted to be inheritable.
However, it can also become a habit.
I think that people who have a tendency to be addicted to things are that way in all aspects of their lives. When they do something, it's all the way. All or nothing thinking. Black or white thinking.
I think addiction to drugs and alcohol are primarily a way for people to cope with problems that they otherwise don't know how to deal with. Maybe they were abused or maybe they have some anxiety issues. The first time that they use, they get a feeling of being okay with things. That feeling in itself is what gets them addicted. Then the chemical addiction takes over

I think it depends. Physical addiction to a substance is one thing. Addictive behavior can be found in everyone. Some are more pronounced. Behaviors can be changed though. As to why, I would think it's a mechanism they're using(a faulty one) to deal with or avoid an unpleasant situation or something.

Addiction is conditioned pavlovian response, nothing more. People are conditioned to believe that they well be addicted to a certina thing if they do it often enough and they are conditioned to believe that then cannot control repeating that behaviour and a re thus addicted. It is the LIE of addiction that is being propogted that lead to "so-called" addictive behaviour. IF we stop telling people they will be, or already are, addicts then they will eventually, on thier own, with NO external influence cease that behaviour as they do any other behaviour that they get tired of.

actually, an dependancy of any kind can pass itself down via households - notwithstanding that is extra like a higher percentage probability of addictive habit, truly then a confident aspect.

Addictive personalities are more influenced by genetics than anything else. Addiction may be properly classified as both a trait AND a habit.
