Colonscopy is much easier now. The prep, the night before is the worst part. Yukky stuff you have to drink.(some doctors prescribe a pill instead) They will give you a drug to relax you, then a drug so that you do not feel a thing. Yes, you lay on your side, and some doctors will allow you to look at the screen. You have to stay a few hours afteward, to be observed. You must take someone with you to drive you home. Do not eat or drink, anything red before your procedure, the doctor told me I could eat jello, so not thinking, I ate red. The doctor said, she was changing her instructions, telling people not to do that!! But it turned out OK, so when my husband had one later, we knew better. Better be safe than sorry. Good luck!

I had a Colonoscopy and EGD done at the same time about 8yrs ago. My mom came to the hospital with me, but had to wait in the recovery room. They put me in a bed and wheeled me into another room. I was lying on my side. They started an IV and gave me Versed. I remember nothing, felt nothing. I woke up about 5min after it was over. I was real sleepy and my mom had to keep repeating things to me. There was no pain. The worst thing about the colonoscopy was the laxatives they had me drink. Don't worry about the procedure, they're very common and pretty painless. Good luck!

It is painless. You will either be asleep or nearly asleep. You can bring a friend but he cannot go into the room with you.
