People have different dispositions all over the world. There are many ways of offending the Japanese that would, at the same time, not phase an American the slightest. The British, as well as we Scandinavians, have a fairly sarcastic disposition and that doesn't always work in rosy-cheeked, honest, say-it-to-my-face, America. That's not to say anyone is in error here, just that a good joke between friends in the UK might be seen as arrogant in the U.S.
At the same time, I must say that your question is a bit arrogant. You're judging an entire nation of people.

I'm English and I certainly believe that modern English society has become much more arrogant, self entitled, dumbed down and nationalist. The 20 to 30 somethings in England are full of attitude and tend to say the first thing that comes into their heads, often aggressively. I've visited American on 4 occasions and have always found them to be more hospitable and optimistic than the Brits. English people tend to cling to the coat tails of history, banging on and on superiorly about how they beat the Germans and the French etc even though none of them were even born then. Most of them act superior and arrogant towards other nations despite the fact that they live in a world of globilisation which accounts for their smartphones and Ipods, which could have just as easily been made in a factory in Germany or France as a factory in England. Not only do I find modern England to be arrogant but I also find it to be feckless, soulless and superficial as well. The English are the only people on the planet that can have a stuck up poo-faced superior expression whilst reading "Harry Potter" on the tube.

Have you indeed? Which British are these? The northern English; the lowland Scot, the highland Scot, the southern English the northern Welsh, the southern Welsh, the Midlanders, the Cornish, the northern Irish and the west country English. All are very different in accent, humour and manners and all make up the whole of Britain. And then there's the people who are first generation, or second and third generation British.
So according to you they are ALL arrogant. Isn't that an arrogant statement in itself?

As a british person myself (i am NOT proud to be), i'm legally british, but there is japanese blood in my veins.
Still, in the 24 years i spent growing up in my hometown of rickmansworth, i experienced prejudice, being called names in my school, etc. For the most british white people ive met so far in life, i get this impression that they think they are the superior or ideal people, boasting about whatever. But there are some very warm and kind ones i have met also.

I'm sure there are good and bad people everywhere. Same as French people. We can't judge the whole country because some of them are ignorant. Darren is unfair to say all French people are rude. I was in French last July and I met the most friendly, fun people in Marseilles. We traveled to Italy together and still keep in touch. I also was in London and the bus driver wasn't friendly. Matter of fact, he yelled at passengers. I also met a British doctor in the US, he is nice, friendly and such a gentleman. Bad people are everywhere and so are good people.

Of course there is good and bad but in total , after living a while in this country and work with British I have to say the majority are Rude and Selfish, if you talk back and behave same you will be called Rude, but they never consider themselves same and that is make someone arrogant that do not put him/her self in someone else shoes. I am sure they consider themselves very sophisticated people but they are not and it is very easy to realise it after living and working with them for short time.

I've met hundreds of Brits and honestly, most of them were arrogant. There are very few I met whom I would consider humble. I hate to stereotype but the term "Arrogant Brit" is quite true. It's funny actually because I met so many Irish and Scotts that agree. Since they are in adjacent vicinity to the English I would think they would be the experts, and I concur.

I say that it depends upon whom they compare themselves to. Having an educational system parsecs above a developed country like the USA, they have every reason to be proud, if not arrogant. Actually most countries in the world can stand up proudly and say, "Yeah we elected a [...fill in the blank...] but at least he wasn't Donald Trump!"

**** me, they can be sooo arrogant while being so ignorant, it is quite repugnant, to stay with words ending in ant. It is tiring. I`ve probably haven`t climbed the social ladder high enough yet to meet good kind of open minded people.

Not all of them are. You could generalise EVERY race as arrogant or anything you dislike. However there are some people who aren't. Sure you get arrogant people.. but they are everywhere.
