You should prepare yourself as well as your budget allows. A generator would be the best thing. If you can't afford a generator you must prepare for an outage with distilled water, canned goods, flashlights, batteries, an oil or propane heater(s) that don't require electricity.
If you can afford a generator you need to also purchase the cord, connectors, and transfer switch to hook it up. Or, this can be done temporarily with the services of an electrician. Or you can simply use extension cords, but don't forget to read the owner's manual.
I was in this situation a few years ago, and since then I am fully prepared for a power outage for up to a week or so. Even more if I were to get more fuel. It is much cheaper and easier to equip yourself before a crisis. Good luck.

If your power is out for an extended period of time a generator would power your fridge or other misc equipment you might need.
If you use any type of heating device indoors make sure its properly vented.
Keep your fridge/freezer doors closed as things will stay cold for an extended period of time when the doors are closed.
If power lines go down due to ice, stay inside because those lines will still be live.
Hope it does not happen to you!

Too late --should have been done earlier--knick back ,relax and play it by ear this time--I"m iced in too--propably for a few days. I went out and bought a couple sacks of food,a bag of dog food,a big bottle of spiced rum,and 1 large candle. That"s all I need -- I"m set to hibernate now and really enjoy being semi-marooned by myself up here until things thaw out again so I can drive. Meanwhile -- It"s a time of peace and quite and a beautiful winter wonderland view. Enjoy the moment.

pray! make sure you have allot of warm cloths - blankets- and eatable foods that don't need to be cooked, if you have a cell phone try calling electric company , if you loose it I'm sure others in your area will be in same predicament,Keep bottled water in house juices stuff like that, this sounds Conny but you will thank me if you have this problem in the future,Also you need some candles for light, and something to keep you occupied until the electricity comes back on.like books to read?
I hope this gives you some good ideas what to do,Have a nice day>benery

Your best bet is to prepare beforehand.
Store extra water: Without electricity, your pump won't bring more water into the house
Buy food that doesn't have to be cooked.
Get candles or lanterns.
Get an alternate source of heat.
And keep extra blankets.
Good luck!
