Determine how you connect to the internet. Dial-up,wireless or wired router or cable/dsl. Connect the cable to the Mac unless you are using wireless. Select the appropriate answer to the question the setup assistant is asking you. You're done.

You don't need to set up your Macintosh for internet use right away. You can configure your internet settings at any time. Your question is a little vague. What kind of internet are you planning on using your Mac with? Dial-up? Broadband? Ethernet? WiFi? What are the circumstances here?

if you connect to the internet with a wireless router, as whoever set it up.

if not, there should be an option there for "i connect to the internet some other way" or something like that

pick that option, and choose how you connect to the internet.
if you don't have an internet connection, there's an option for that, too.
