Many of the Indian Nations have their own names for themselves. It is common that such tribes are known better by the names given them by others--either by other tribes or by the non-Indians.

there are actual names for the Indigenous People for themselves but not commonly known outside the Tribe. one example that comes to mind is the Dine Tribe which is more commonly known as the Navajo.
