Americans have seen the Republican party fall from the conservative platform that propped them to prominence in 1994. Sure, you stll have truly conservative senators (Kay Bailey Hutchinson, John Cornyn, Mitch McConnell, Jeff Sessions, etc.) and representatives (Hal Rogers, John Linder, etc.,) but the election of a democratic congress, while not the sweep of 1994, was a sign of American disgust with the course of leadership in this country. Is it with President Bush's policies pertaining to international diplomacy and war? That's a question for another day. The way I see it, it has to do more with the lackluster, wavering support of many so-called Republicans (RINOs) for the war and allowing themselves to be influenced by their desires to befriend the clearly anti-war democraps ( Democrats.)
To answer your question, the liberal platform was quintessentially saying that the democrats have an agenda, and Mr. Bush is a bumfuddle hillbilly Texan who picks his teeth and "gits-r-dun." As bad as I hate to say this, people are just not informed with occurances that affect the governmental and diplomatic vitality of our nation, domestic and abroad. Thus, people are quick to criticize the Iraq for although they know so little about the pre- and present-war situtations. The liberals don't have an agenda except "pull out now!" The liberals, with all of their collective intellect, money, might, and power are so wonderful in just systematically assuming that peace, with the coercion and facilitation of peace summits, will just reevolve into being in the Middle East, Iraq will be like the set of the Teletubbies, and Iran and Syria might ally with Iraq but not negative affect the U.S. So wonderful...so they think.

Unfortunately, thats the liberal idea. You are free to think, do, feel or say anything you want...as long as its THEIR opinion. Otherwise you get shouted down, verbally abused. Look at how they handle Bush. Love him or hate him, criticize the facts. They make it personal. They make fun of how he speaks, his kids, his IQ etc... I'd love to know how may of them have degrees from Hrvard or Yale. (a liberal bastion, by the way, so enough with the his daddy bought him a degree. HE probably had to fight for every single grade)
Liberals are the definition of preaching to the choir. While Conservatives are spread all over, liberals tend to be clustered in the big cities. All they hear is their own opinions, their own squacking and add to that the liberal media and they seem to think they have it all figured out. They seem to forget that more than half the country doesn't think that way.
They start to believe their own hype after a while. They think if its printed on a website, it must be true! And they go around squaking it like the Kool Aid drinkiers they are. What liberals fail to see is that in order to be a liberal, you must be a follower. A sheep. If you actually think about things, make informed choices about what it takes to run a country like this (good AND Bad), provide us with this lifestyle... you are not a liberal. Liberals don't understand that some people don't want a hug, they just want to kill you, your family and your way of life. The Ironic part is NYC, the biggest liberal city in the nation is also the number one terror target. You'd think that would open their eyes that those that want us dead, don't really want a olive branch. Your average terrorist, probably has more respect for a fighter, a Bush, a republican than a liberal. He sees a liberal as someone soft, with no morals etc. The very reason the terrorists hate us is because of the liberal agenda...Gay marriage, no family values, anything goes attitude, no morals etc. If they were so smart, they'd see that and be begging for protection!

I don't think I'm smarter, but I do believe that truth and righteousness are on my side. The right seems to promote thuggery, xenophobia, racism, and I want no part of it.
Generally, the left believes man should strive to be better, not succumb to primitive appetites. That's basically how I see it.
Now, with respect to intelligence, I don't know about that. But, conservatives have actively courted Americans that have a lower level of education. There is some evidence that there is a link between low education and low intelligence, mainly because people who are less intelligent have more difficulty in school and can't wait to be done with it.
But, your party has aggressively courted less educated members of the population with gay-bashing, anti-immigration, and other lowbrow, hate-based policies -- don't put it on liberals.
Now, if we were to eliminate the lowbrow rural people from the right and whatever the analog would be on the left, I don't think there would be much difference in intelligence, if any.
The important distinction regards striving to improve where the system is messed up. If it weren't for this progressive spirit, you probably would not be able to vote, you would have no weekend, women would be regarded as property, only landowning Aristocrats could hold office (legally), etc.
Maybe you harken back to those days? You wouldn't be the only one.
Let's move forward. Let's look at what needs fixing, and not shelter oursleves in the fanatsy that everything is great and perfect -- as validated by our dominance.
We have a long way to go. The standard should not simply be being better than others.

I see all you tough guys have been able to do is click the thumbs down button. If any of you has any gonads, why don't you start a dialogue with me and I will explain why the only reasonable approach to take, if one is a God-fearing human being, is to be a pro-life liberal -- just like Christ was. If all you want to do is beat up on *****rs, of course you have found your party.

Many of the lunatic left think that they are "great thinkers" because they hide in institutions their whole life as students or teachers. They never enter the real world. So, they have a clouded one sided view.
Also, they can't understand that you cant negotiate with psychopaths and dictators. Some people only understand pain and violence. The only way you can control some people is to crush them.
Lastly. The lunatic left rarely will come into a discussion with fact. You can show them facts in black and white and they will just tell you its all lies and then begin with the insults.
No facts so they spew hate. No solutions so they spew hate.
Point in case: The Congress is now controlled by Democrats.
Where is there plan for the war in Iraq and the Middle East? They have none. All they are doing is attacking members of the Bush Administration.. Look what was said to Secretary Rice.

Liberals believe they are the smartest people in the room. Always have and always will. When you challenge them on issues with facts, or demand that they present actual fact rather than speculation to support their positions the majority fold. At this point since they cannot dispute truth they resort to the tactic of discrediting. Thus no matter what evidence you present you are relegated to the position of mindless follower in their minds. It's dishonest, but it is never going to change. Liberals cannot accept the depth of their own hypocrisy and will do everything in their power to destroy you for daring challenge their self perceived brilliance. I must say that some conservative do this also, but I see it much less on the conservative side. I have long given up on honest debate with the majority of liberals and instead just post my opinions and attack their positions with logic and facts. I do this for the more rational moderate people in the crowd because we cannot allow liberal opinion to stand unchallenged when it is incorrect or slanderous. I don't care if liberals like this or not my positions are based on my own worldview, not other peoples perception of those views. Free speech, it works both ways and liberals just cannot stand that fact.

Well, the liberal-bashing has to be met with something, right?
I do not think conservatives are dumb. Reasonable minds can differ on the same set of facts. I do not hold the platform that I'm smart and your dumb. There I answered your question.
What I do think is dumb is calling me arrogant and not really making any effort to understand where I stand. Just as conservatives do not all have the same opinions, neither to libs.
I don't think winning presidential elections has anything to do with being smart (or the kind of smart you are referrring to). I could make many, many references to Bush here, but I won't. Calling him dumb (even for sport) removes the responsibility for what he is doing to this country.

It's all about Stereotypes. You have to admit that there are a lot of stupid republicans! They give your party a bad name. The same goes for Dems. They get branded with "whiners" and "welfare recipients". Works both ways. I don't really think you should worry about the intelligence of the people who are saying that though. Doesn't seem so bright to generalize such a large group of people like that..

Liberals do not like to be challenged in their thinking as it tends to get them thinking about actual facts rather than emotions, so they will often try to pretend they are intellectually smarter, then run away quickly.
ie: "Bush is a dumb monkey, we need to leave Iraq NOW!! dude..." Response: "Despite your irrational feelings about the President, do you think Iran controlling the bulk of the world's oil supply and nuking Israel to be a good thing?"
Retort: "Bush is Dumb and So are you!!!" Lib runs off
Ever encounter this? lol

Most people who are defeated react this way. Instead of taking a good, hard look at what they need to improve personally, they lash out at the victorious. I think it's something similar to an inferiority complex, the realization that others do not admire you as much as you admire yourself.

its not arrogance it just the plain truth, anyone who would support this president and this war is one sandwich shy of a picnic. the only explainable reasons for doing so would have to be blind pride. now don't get me wrong Pride is a great thing but when your pride blinds you to the completely obvious it becomes a hindrance. the other reason is that one would have to be plain gullible to believe in this president just because he holds the office does not make him right. the facts speak for themselves. this war was a mistake and the only reason we are still there is because the president has got his ego on the line something he has fought to keep in tack since his college days. before he gets us into another war he needs to be stopped.
