Everything had to do with VoIP. When I rang someone I was able to hear them but they were not able to hear me.
When I asked the VoIP provider, she said I will have to open all UDP & TCP ports.
I don't have any background in networking, but I had configured the router on my own earlier, doing some mind boggling research, but got stuck when she asked me to do this...

Hey Dude,

What are you trying to do? Route or firewall? Do you have the firewall package?

Routers route, in general. They do not care about the above layers, unless there is something new I don't know about. If you are doing firewall stuff, you need some access lists

Try this
access-list extended permit ip any any
access-list extended permit ip any any

IP covers both TCP and UDP.

Good luck

Tom

Hi,

When you setup a router for the first time, all the ports are open by default. And this will remain the same unless you define an Access Control List (ACL) and apply that ACL to an interface on your router. By doing this you can block traffic to a specific port, destination host, destination network or by many other parameters.

PS all new Cisco routers run IOS and depending on the version and features of the IOS, they can perform many more functions than simply routing.
