I would definite support the initiative to raise the minimum wage to $8 per hour for anyone who is eligible to work. It beats working 5.15 if you live in KY like myself. Ciao baby!!!

oppose.
EVERY time it goes up inflation goes with it.

The cost of those wages by necessity is passed on to the individual consumer.

minimum wage will always be the bottom of the heap, no matter how high it goes it will not improve anyone's lot for more than a few months.

All it does is fuel inflation.

I would rather start at a lower wage and work my way up than to start at a higher wage and not be able to go beyond that because it is already so high, while inflation continues to climb, inflation that was fuelled or even generated by a higher minimum wage.

Employers would like to give more raises to keep good workers. Starting a person at an inflated $8 means that it will be more difficult for many of these employers to raise that. Contrary to popular opinion because you have a business you are not automatically "rich".

A good many jobs are already at or near $8 and these are mimimun unskilled work. Employers pay this to be competetive to get and keep workers that are dependable, good workers, willing to learn.

Many college grads are shocked to learn that the jobs that are open to them (entry level) don't pay "big bucks" they pay a very modest amount. That amount is often at or near your proposed minimum. They must get real experience and proove themselves before they are paid more.

Now let's say you suceed in getting a $8 minimum. And Fred who is working at an unskilled job that would typically pay minimum. Now there is Pete who is a skilled worker maybe in a profession. Pete is just starting out in this profession an so his wages are close to that $8 minimum. What happens when you raise the minimum for Fred?

I have been a minimum worker. I workd my way up.
Later I went into a profession where my starting wage was no mre than the non professionals who worked there. (they were skilled non professionals who had proven themselves.) I was OK with that because I understood I had the education to work up.

I also have employed people in my business. I pay unskilled wages higher than minimum. I give rases as possible. When minimum goes up that becomes an impossibility even thought these people deserve it. Suddenly workers who have been working for sometime find themselves taking a giant step back words to working minimum wage or just slightly above it. Is that fair?

Raising the bottom will always drive everything up and the bottom no matter how high it goes reamains the bottom.

It is better to proove you worth. To get educated where possible. Education by the way is not always just formal education. Have some drive and willingness to work.

Oppose. Minimim wage was never designed to be a living wage. It is an entry level wage. However, people tend to gravitate towards federally set limits such as the maximim interest rate you can charge or the minimum wage, and people accept this, because they feel it must be ok if the government set the limit. Since the wage not meant to protect those working for a living wage, it may hurt many people who are in positions paying slightly higher than $8.00/hour.

I would oppose that based on the AGE factor. I'd say AGE shuld not matter. If you are working, at whatever age, the minimum should be $8.00 per hour (or more, depending on the job).

I'd oppose rising the minimum wage. In fact, I'd like the market to determine minimum wage, however I know it won't happen... in current conditions and according to my beliefs, min. wage shouldn't rise.

A big supporter !

Although funny how it (min. wage) is rarely " in-forced " by employers or labour dept ..etc.

How many workers, have too work over-time for free, don't take all holiday entiltlements or lunch breaks..etc.

Majority of workers, me thinks !
