I also had Accounting as a major and it bored the living hell out of me.
The benefits of accounting are that you get a very solid base, which can then later on help you in pursuing professional qualifications such as becoming a chartered accountant, auditor, etc or get you a job within a major consultancy or audit firm.
Knowledge of Accounting and Financial Modelling (Cashflows Projections etc.) is very important should you want to pursue a career in Investment Banking or Research.
What it really boils down to is what you want to do with your life. If you don't know what you want to become then it is quite hard to say whether this is the right subject for you.

What is so good is that you can move on to get a serious career. You should do it and aim high - one step at a time of course, but if you go on to add a Business Studies Master and find an employer in the corporate sector, you will expect a salary of 100K and the rest. Don't even start the course if you aren't 100% committed - it's gonna take it out of you and the work isn't just 9-5.but the accountants I know enjoy the work and the lifestyle, if not the late nights at work sometimes. Hope this helps you to make up your mind. Rich

Yes I think accounting is good. What's good about it is that it that there are many different career options to choose from. You could work for a private firm, one of the big 4, the government, start your own practice, etc.
Accounting isn't especially difficult but it takes some studying to get the basics down and can get very involved. Some people get it right away and a lot of people struggle with it.
Pass the CPA exam and you can have a good career ahead of you.

After being an accountant for some years in an audit company (pwc, deloitte etc), you have much chances to enter a company in financial department and then, as CFO (Chief Financial Officer).

Ask your cousin!
It is fairly secure, but it is generally considered to be very dull. Most accountants I know are desperate to get out.
