At about 4 weeks (before I had ANY idea I was pregnant) I took a capsule of pure MDMA. Any idea of the effects this may or may not have on my baby?

There haven't been sufficient studies on this to be sure. Here's the view of one researcher on a study involving rats:

Prenatal exposure to MDMA
An important consideration for the human users of MDMA concerns possible adverse effects on the fetus. Relatively few studies have addressed this issue, however, a recent paper by St. Omar, et al. 1991 has done so. Groups of pregnant rats were administered varying doses of MDMA on alternate gestational days 16-18. Gestational duration, litter size, neonatal birth weights and physical appearance at birth were unaffected by MDMA treatment. Pregnancy weight gain was significantly reduced by MDMA. Progeny growth, maturational parameters, surface righting reflex, swimming performance, forelimb grip strength, milk induced behavior, passive avoidance behavior, figure 8 maze activity, and the density of 5-HT uptake sites, 5-HT, and 5-HIAA levels were unaffected by MDMA treatment. Olfactory discrimination was enhanced in both male and female progeny, and negative geotaxis was delayed in female pups. In the dams, MDMA caused significant reductions in 5-HT and 5-HIAA levels in discrete brain areas. It was concluded that prenatal exposure to MDMA causes only subtle behavioral changes in developing rats, while the dams are at risk for the characteristic spectra of serotonergic changes.

This is obviously not a good thing to have happened, BUT it has happened and it happened before you even knew you were pregnant, I done exactly the same thing but Not with MDMA, with other classs A Drugs, I have spoken to care workers and drug councillors about this and they have told me not to worry, as there is nothing that can be done now anyway, and there isnt the most conclusive evidence that all drugs affect all babies all the time, it is a matter of luck. I would check out the web, as I havent used MDMA, but did use cocaine, which terrified me. I was also told that there would be a big chance of loosing the baby if the drugs had had a bad effect. So just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best. When you get your scan this may put your mind at rest as my scan did, the babies heart beat and movement was fine and i am now to get one in 3 weeks once i reach 26 weeks, which should show up any problems.

Good Luck, and I know its easy to say dont worry but please try and put it out your mind, why dont you go and visit a drug rehab centre or doctors or even call some helpline, you shoud be able to get contact numbers on the web. This isnt as rare as you think, it is actually really common these days, i mean people usually dont know there pregnant until 2/3 month, so dont feel guilty.

if you need to talk email me, and I will listen as I know exactly what youa re going through

All the best,

X

The fact that you're still pregnant is a good sign that the baby will be ok. Usually at that gestational age, miscarrage rates are high even in pregnancies where nothing "extra" has been taken. I drank a few times before I found out I was pregnant and it scared me to death! My Dr. said everything looks good from the scans and that I would do more damage to the baby if I worried about it through the rest of the pregnancy. What is done can not be undone. Just concentrate on being healthy the rest of the pregnancy. Good luck!

I doubt that anyone could tell you for sure because they don't tend to give MDMA to pregnant women to see what happens!
Hopefully, one capsule won't be harmful. But there is nothing that you can do about it now. Just try to relax and be as healthy as possible for the rest of your pregnancy.

Firstlydo not take it again, and try never to take it again in the future.Your lucky it was one.It causes your heartbeat to increase, ruins the part of your brain that makes seratone, which causes long term paranoya and depression.I know as growing up in the late 80s early 90s i watched alot of my friends take loads of the stuff and most of them even now are always depressed.I cant see that one will have harmed your baby, but continous use would cause implications to your babys development, and more than likely brain damage, aswell as possisbly deforming your baby.Maybee its a wake up call, please beleive me,learn to enjoy yourself without relying on a false high. Please mention it to your doctor next time you are there.
