Consumers have no other choice but to buy what is offered by the oil companies.A single person or persons cannot afford to start their own fuel industry except making own Alcohol which the govt will not allow.By the way Alcohol is the best fuel there is for the Internal combustion engine beside hydrogen but hydrogen is too difficult to handle. All the Indy Racing Cars use Alcohol. But remember buying Arab oil is the main function of American Foreign policy.

I would rather use synthetic fuels tha buy arab oil. In the 1970's companies tried to start up synthetic fuels plants. The price of a barrel of oil soon dropped to $18. A group of companies, with General Electric in the lead, have plans on the board for syn-fuels plants. They estimate that they can be profitable at about $35 per barrell. They won't build unless the US government guarantees the price. That won't happen.

almost everyone, except the oil executives and their bought and paid for political hacks. Gas has gone down for supply and demand reasons, and the future trading that determines the price of oil, and maybe even a little in fear of high prices raising demands for conservation and alt fuels.

I heard about a new invention, roofing material that generates electricity. I forgot what it's called, but it's said to have the potential of saving 40% of fossil fuel usage in the USA.
It'll be interesting to see if the electric and oil industry fights the product.

Definitely " yes "
Don't know about the second part of your question but as far as alternative fuels , then look at Brazil .
They are no longer dependent on foreign oil.
They grow corn and then process it into a gas called ethanol .
About 85% of their vehicles are run on ethanol .

I think you are missing the point. The high costs are usually caused by American oil companies. The 1980's high prices were blamed on Arab oil companies, but it was later discovered that American oil companies had caused the inflated prices. They were fined and costs were passed on to end users. the latest increases are due to instability in Middle east. Want to bet that the war in Iraq did not have alot to do with manipulating prices? ;) Just look at the administration's connection to oil, and think.

I would love to end my dependance on foreign oil.

I take the bus to work and make an effort not to make unnecessary trips. My next car will most likely be a hybrid.

we actually don't have to be dependent on arabic oil supply. the reason prices are down is because the holiday travel season is over. we have our own oil supply but we'd rather use theirs so we can save ours. also so we can give them income. i think we should just use some of our own and less of theirs.

yes. if we make the oil companies obsolete then it would take the wind right out of the war on terror.

If you want to actually see foreward thinking in action look at japan. they are actuallky working on alternatives.
American auto makers keep releasing the same crap every year. more muscle cars and less brain cars.

Its like the brady bunch movie where mike brady keeps building a version of his house for every design he makes. whether its a gas station or office building it always looks like his house..... thats american auto makers in a nutshell thats why their sales are dropping and japans are going way up

As far as "Who" would be for it,I imagine most consumers would, but if you check the Stock holdings of your illustrious leaders, I'll believe you will be enlightened as to why there will be no alternates, until this supply ,has exhausted itself, at an enormous profit to these people
