As was stated previously, I think the club has a stellar offense (assuming the JD Drew contract dispute gets worked out) and the starting rotation and middle of the bullpen looks pretty good as well.
The closer situation right now is the biggest question mark. Pineiro may be an option, but the club is still rumored to be in talks with the Nationals for Chad Cordero and the Brewers for Derrick Turnbow.
In a recent interview Johnathon Papelbon said that he'd be the closer again in 2007 if the team managed to sign Roger Clemens to fortify the rotation. Although I don't think there's a lot of people who actually expect Clemens back in Beantown, it is always a possibility. If that would be the case the rotation would like like this Schilling, Clemens, Beckett, D-Mat, Wakefield with guys like Jon Lester and Matt Clement on the outside looking in and able to fill in if necessary.
That would allow Papelbon to return to the role he dominated last season and ultimately would make the Red Sox the favorite to win not only the AL East, but in my opinion the American League pennant.

well they COULD but it is gonna be hard. The only proven starters on that team are Schilling, Beckette, and Clement. Motsuzaka MAY be god but he hasn't been in the mlb before and he may have trouble getting use to the MLB players and their dominance. And Papplebon well that should be interesting i mean he sucked *** as a closer and now him wanting to be a starter should be interesting to see. Now with the bullpen. Piniero isn't gonna do it as a closer. He just isn't consistent enough. but with my jays looking a little on the lower side of things i give the red sox a good shot at second in the division and MAYBE a wild card spot

hi there, pink Sox fan, Rivera wasn't "dropping his head" on the right of the season, replaced into he? yet i guess as a pink Sox fan whose crew received 0 postseason video games, you want something to make you smile! As a Yankee fan, i visit grudgingly admit that Ellsbury's thieve replaced right into a best play, yet from yet another attitude, that is at the same time as each thing replaced into going proper for Boston, each thing replaced into going incorrect for the Yankees, and also you knew ultimately their fortunes ought to replace.

It's possible. But they have to beat the yankees, and we all know that is hard to do.
Should they make it to the playoffs (they would have to win the division, as the wild card comes the Central Division again this year), they would have to get past The Tigers---and that will be more difficult than beating the yankees.

They've got a closer, Joel Piniero. Though he was a starter he will be converted to the pen. It think a big thing will be papelbon's transition to starting pitcher. Pitching is everything in the big leagues. Also depends on wheter Ortiz and Ramirez want to play an entire season this year and not hang it up in July.

They'll be right there again. They have great offense and their starters will be good enough to get the job done. They need to trade for a closer though.
