It depends on your size and shape. If your tall and slender I would say three buttons, short and stout I would say two buttons. It also depends on what type of occasion the suit is for, casual it wouldn't matter if it was two button, if it was for a formal occasion I would go with three button.
The best way to really tell is to actually try on some suits and see what cut and style looks best on this person. The Men's Warehouse is a great place to go to get the right fit, they will even tailor it to fit you properly when you buy the suit.

Three button suits are fashionable, especially if you're on the slender side. If you carry weight in your midsection, consider going for a two button. Keep in mind to button all but one button on a suit (preferrably leaving the bottom button un-buttoned).
